My friend thinks soccer (sorry to english people, I'm in Australia, we call it that here)
No we don't, or, we shouldn't :p
I understand the whole 'its played with the foot, so it football' argument and don't disagree. How can I , its right.

But while football here is still considered either rugby league or aussie rules, i will always call it soccer. Im sorry if that pisses some people off but hey, when I think of 'football' I think of the football I have been bought up with.

Its the same with Americans, they have their 'football' and call true football soccer, its just a way we can differenciate.
Eh, no-ones pissed off, I'I just won't let you speak for ALL Australians, hehe =D . I used to call it 'Soccer' too, but as I got more into it, I got to grips with it all and now try to refer to every code by it's own unique title. Football, American Football/Gridiron, AFL, NRL, etc.

P.S: I still find it difficult to refer to my favoured passtime, 'Indoor Soccer', as 'Indoor Football'...It just sounds.......weird? So don't take it too harshly =D . As you can see, there is no such thing as innocence... ;)
Yeah I didn't actually mean piss you off personally but it did come across that way. Its just everytime I say soccer someone has to come and correct me when all of my 31 years me and everyone I know has always refered to 'football' as soccer..its just how it is with most people I know and if I was talking about football they would all assume I was talking about rugby league. I know thats not "everyone" but yeah..Isn't that easier than having to have this ridiculous argument with people. Some call it football, predominently from countries where it is the most popular sport. While it is widely played here in Australia, its not anywhere the highest spectator sports. Most are only interested when world cup is on and that makes us realise why we don't watch soccer in the first place.

I was thinking football when i opened this but after reading a bit, i would say ice hockey. It's like football on ice at a faster pace.

I would have to say archery or falconry... There are so many variables in archery that you have to account for its not even funny. And Falconry is just as bad.

I would classify skill into a very broad range of physical, technical and mental attributes, so I would vote for either soccer (football) or martial arts because these sports seem to have the best balance of these areas.

I'm going to agree with the OP and say that ice hockey requires the most skill. Although I may be biased because it's my favorite sport.

Most skillful sport? Starcraft 2.
I agree with this guy, except make that Starcraft 1. I mean considering you can only control a certain amount of units at a time your APM will skyrocket. And well, compared to the vids I've seen of Starcraft 1 pros and Starcraft 2 pros, the Starcraft 1 pros are well.... well they have faster hands.

I'm going to go with Basketball. You have to shoot the ball from yards away into a hoop that is only 125% the diameter of the ball itself. Talk about accuracy.

Though the repeated submissions of Golf does have me rethinking this. Seems to me though that once you get down a stroke in Golf, you always will hit it that way, only with slightly more or less power depending. Basketball still has the element of the clock and other players who can change the way your shot is thrown in an instant.

The people in this thread have obviously never done wrestling (I talking real wrestling here) before. Not only do you have to be fast and strong but the amount of time that is put into just getting the moves down to the point where they become muscle memory (where your body just reacts without thinking about it) is more than five or six hours a day for the very best in the world. Also it takes a ton of skill as far as balance, spacial awareness, and timing to be good at the sport that is only beaten out by competitive running as the oldest sport in the history of mankind.

Never played golf have you?

I played a bit of basketball when I was younger and of course it takes alot of skill but with practice most people who are into sport will get decent at it. Not a pro level or anything but good enough to be able to have an enjoyable game.

Golf is different altogether...I know people who have played for years and while they do improve, you still couldn't say they were even playing at a decent level. Being in individual sport also means alot of skill comes with how you can control your mind under pressure. I would say the reason Tiger Woods is (was before his downfall) regarded as one of the greatest sportspeople of all time, is because he remained at the top for so long in a sport so difficult.

Martial Arts. You need balance, concentration, skill, and memory to be able to preform the moves in tune with the person you are up against.
seconded. I was wondering why noone else mentioned this. If it wasn't, I would have.
It is a shame that people don't appreciate how hard this sport can be at times and how much skill it really takes to chop a plank of wood in half with your bare hand.
