I just went back to the Witcher 2 and once again though that it was so stupid that Geralt was blamed for the killing, same in Dishonored too.

I really think that the bodyguard getting blamed has to be the most stupid plotline in videogames. Bodyguards are not infallible and they have proved themselves loyal to their ruler. Corvo and the EMpress were in love and Geralt had saved the King's life before! I just hate this plotline

Now for the purpose of a thread, what do you think it the most stupid plotline?

I love the old incompetent guard story.
"Sir the prisoner is escaping," Identical Man 1 "should we go after him?"
"No that involves effort, instead we'll cover over the incident by telling everyone that (insert sinister evil here) has returned and the prisoner is destined to stop it." Identical man 2
"Shouldn't we just search the prisoner for escape tools beforehand" Identical man 1
"These gloves don't wash themselves, you know" Identical man 2

I love the elder scrolls games but seeing all those empty jail cells makes me wonder if I'm just part of one giant conspiracy theory! Also yes I do suck at comedy

Vanquish.

"Oh noes, San Fransisco gets lasered from space! Good thing we had a whole fleet of spaceships filled with marines, just waiting up in space... for months? years?"

"The real reason we're here is... because we miss a random professor guy?"

"Burns decides to turn evil and laser Moscow... because??? "O hey I decided to do something totally weird for a change!""

"You haven't seen the last of meeeee! /villain escapes, promptly rendering the whole effort futile."

"Oh the whole station blew up, and somehow the dumb girl can't look at the sensors to see that the dude made it out in an escape capsule... and then POOF he appears by magic right behind her. I guess escape capsules have a magical instantaneous teleport + docking thingymagadget?"

That game had awesome gameplay, but man was that plot ever stupid.

Army of Two: The 40th Day had a really contrived and stupid plot.

In retrospect however, I really shouldn't have been expecting much. Nobody plays those games for the plot.

Not really, anyway.

Welcome to Platinum games. This is the company that brought you "Hair witch kicks god into the sun." And I love them for it.

It helps to have a bit of world context there, people dislike Witchers and are naturally suspicious of them*, so it's reasonable that they picked him as a scapegoat.

Anyway, the answer is all the modern military shooters that use some improbable and convoluted mechanism to make America the victim so that the player doesn't feel guilty shooting hordes of foreign poor people. Especially Homefront, which is so far off the implausibility scale that it can't even see reality with a radiotelescope.

At least in silly old Just Cause 2 the main character knows full well that the only problem with the local tinpot dictator is that he isn't toeing the CIA's line, and this is the reason that he is "liberating" the people from their civil infrastructure like water towers and petrol stations.

* To be fair, in the Witcher everyone basically dislikes and is suspicious of everyone else.

I thought they could be better explained but definately not bad. in my opinion at least

heres my take on the.

Witcher 2
People in this setting do not like witchers at all and tend accuse them of alot of stuff. it also doesnt help when the only person seen with Foltest was geralt and he was standing over the dead king with his sword out. also remember how he was found by average joe soldier. as such he is arrested and used as a scapegoat because tensions are now running high.

Dishonourd
So corvo has been away for a long long time. and when he comes back the empress is murdered? what are people supposed to think escpecially when two of her most trusted council/paliament/government people are publicly accusing him. again like in Witcher tensions are high here as well. there is a drastic power shift so many nobles want to side with whoever will come out on top and there is a plague decimating the city

The Resident Evil games. Courtesy of Umbrella Inc, whose economy hinges on turning half the world's population into zombies and making them kill the other half. BRILLIANT.

Sonic 06

Let's see here:

Pointless first level with Sonic that just sends him back to town? Check.

Stupid romance sub-plot between Sonic and Elise? Check.

Time Machine that conveniently sends our heroes to the exact same moment in time as Shadow and Rouge? Check.

Blaze's story conflicting with her story in Rush? Check.

An evil god like entity sealed inside a little girl that can only come out if she cries? Check.

The list goes on, the game itself is a train wreck and the story is just one part of it.

If we're allowed to ignore some parts of the plot, Mass Effect 1'S plot was absolutely infuriating. It wasn't just bad or unmoving it was actively stupid and infuriating.

The thing is, at no point during the start of the game, all the way up to her first direct encounter with a main villain, was Shepard ever in the right to act like she did. She had no evidence and she was asking the supreme council to send out entire fleets based off of dreams she had whilst medically concussed. Or on the word of a drunk.

And everyone who supported her, they had even less evidence. Anderson supported her because he hated Saren. Garrus supported her because he was bored and wanted to shoot people instead of filing in paperwork and doing due process. Wrex was?

And instead of the game recognising this it expected us to hate the politicians. 'This guy wants more than the evidence of a drunk smuggler hiding directly behind the guy who was shot in the back' What idiots I hate politicians. Gaaah politics. Isn't politics dumb the way they ask for reasonable evidence and don't just take random humans words and make massive galactic policy based on the equivalent of that guy down the street with the 'the End is coming# sign

The game was being fundamentally stupid and was expecting us to hate politicians for it. Michael Bay doesn't pull that crud in his films. This was written by an angry teenager who hates 'the Man' and the way the Man always gets in his way and doesn't let him do stuff. It bewilders me that someone was actually expecting us to agree with them on this

Gordon Freeman wasn't actually sent anywhere in the first Half-Life game. He was just a scientist trying to survive. It's only when he killed the Nihilanth that the G-man decided to use him for anything.

While I agree that A LOT of the plot was idiotic, this was not. Recall how Eden Prime was utterly destroyed, another spectre dead, and Geth uncharacteristically attacked. Granted, this doesn't exactly implicate Saren in anything, BUT the Council still did completely ignore the deaths of many many people because they were human which at that point were a lesser race. So they might have been justified not attacking Saren right away, but they were a bunch of racist punks.

And then later on they didn't believe anything else either, but those times, there was tons of definitive proof.

Luigi's Mansion 2 has the main villain make an appearance in the opening cutscene. Then they proceed to act like it's a mystery of who is wrecking shit.

I'm gonna say Bioshock Infinte too, just because I didn't like it and I'm giving my opinion. I'M GIVING MY OPINION AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME!

Mirror's Edge as well as Mass Effect 2 and up would qualify for this thread.
