The radio said ?No, John. You are the demons?
And then John was a zombie.

More realistically, I'd go with Bioshock too (The entire reveal in Ryan's office).
+1 Reputation for reputable reference.

It's up there with...

"John Freeman... you got here slow and now i am zombie goast. you will pay..."

"Combines leave my son alone" John Freeman said.

Then Jake Snake said "I have lasers too" and brought it out of his pocket where it was hiding and shot the bad guy in teh face.

Well...the entire Metal Gear series starting from #2.

The non-ending for Halo 2. Are those considered surprises?

One of mine would be Metal Gear Solid 4:

When Big Boss turns up at the grave yard, for me that was a 'no fucking way!' moment and also an 'Only in Metal Gear' moment

Another one, a joke one, was Modern Warfare 2:

When it turned out that the gameplay was actually pretty much the same as before, only more annoying multi-player wise, I didn't think that was possible after COD4

What is the most bizar, or unexpecited plot twist you have ever been confronted with.

Mine was in Bioshock, when it tunes out that Jack was a clone...er...whatever he was.
I've not finished it, but thanks for letting me know he is a clone :/

I actually didn't see it coming when ashley killed wrex in ME1 and I was so mad, I dashboarded, chucked a chair at the wall, and then did it again.
I've probably been ninja'd, but it doesn't have to happen that way. (or does it? I'll let you think on that haha)
the third time I did it, I did it right, and kept wrex for the rest of the game, and killed her, so, yeah, that was some good times.

Game: A little-known point & click adventure game from Microprose called Dragonsphere had one heck of a twist in the middle of it.

Movie: The end of Jacob's Ladder.

The ending of Jak 3, when you find out about who the precursors, was in my opinion the biggest let down of storytelling twist ever. It sucked away any hopes of me taking the trilogy seriously again. Shame, since Jak 1 was such a good game too.

I know I'm riding the bandwagon, but the Bioshock twist was great.
i thought that twist in jak 3 was actually pretty good i never saw that coming.

the most suprising twist in a game ive seen is in the final boss of golden sun 2 and the ending i never saw that coming never.

The Matrix

I knew nothing about this movie beforehand. So when at the end of the first act it's revealed that the world is in fact a simulation and the actual world is this cybertronic hell hole, I was pretty fucking stumpt.

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean.

You know the one.

I'm a girl, and that twist left me walking funny. The game as a whole was average at best. It did have some glorious moments shining through the verbose JRPG pitfalls, despite it's horrendous ending. But everyone remembers it for the plot twist.

I'm still new on The Escapist, so I don't know if I'm going to be torn to bits for mentioning a fairly obscure JRPG.
I was gonna say about that twist damn beated me to it. Great game, one of my favourites on the gamecube (i liked it more than final fantasy 10 even O.O) and the game is not as obscure as you might think. A couple of people including myself have mentioned it on these forums before.

anyway welcome to the escapist it's nice to have more people of the female gender come and post here
Charmed. Thanks for the warm welcome.

You play Baten Kaitos Origins? In my opinion, it improves on almost everything that it's predecessor did. Especially in the voice acting and writing categories. But instead of one hard hitting plot twist, you get three, slightly lighter plot twists in quick succession. It didn't hit me quite as hard as Eternal Wings did, but still.
Unfortunely baten kaitos origins was never released in my country (UK) and its a shame because i so want to play it so badly it hurts. :(
Woah, Baten kaitos fans ninja'ed me.
I love that game so much, its poor graphics never bothered me, because the story was so amazing, and the music....oh the music <3
if their was any justice in this world then baten kaitos would of been much more popular and would be up there with the all-time great rpg's.
If there was any justice, Baten kaitos origins would have been made in the UK.
Namco/bandai owe us a second and third game.

Thanks, fuckhead.

;_; Why couldn't you have used a spoiler tag... So sad...
Don't worry, he isn't even right. Jack is not a clone. Although, I suggest you leave this thread if you don't want it spoiled as many people are posting it.

I looked it up on wikipedia, and your right I was way off :p

PS: gona edit the spoiler.

You are thinking of the right movie. I prefer it to the Matrix, it hews closer to the noir rather than freewheeling into cyberpunk. It also didn't have any shit sequels to ruin it...possibly because the end is pretty unsettling when you think about it.

OT: Donnie Darko. I still don't understand that goddamn movie.
I like Dark City and The Matrix equally, one for the novelty and spectacular action (and yes, even for the cheap philosophy) and the other for the noir ambiency, better pacing and higher level of craziness. And yeah, the Matrix sequels retroactively ruined a lot of the first movie's power.

In other news (and kind of OT), if you don't understand Donnie Darko, try watching Southland Tales, from the same writer/director. I didn't understand Donnie Darko either, but ST manages to be even more fucked-up. It goes without saying, I loved both of them.

I've only managed to see Southland Tales once, yet all its craziness coalesces into a coherent whole at the end. I'm pretty sure I get that one. But with Donnie Darko, unless a third of the movie is written off as red herring, I can't get it to make sense.
