Face of Mankind [http://www.fomportal.com/], didn't even have a proper tutorial, just some video that came with the install, was utterly confused, until a player came along and showed me how to buy stuff... He was then about to teach me some more about the game, but was killed by another player...

The game apparently doesn't have any NPCs, everything is player run, and whilst it's an interesting concept, it's horribly executed.

One of the most tedious MMOs I played had to be SEAL Online, the basic principle is actually very simple but if you want to get good at it you have to do a lot of research into things such as crafting (making you're item .XG and what not) then you have to find an item with a very good stat which of course is a random chance and most of them will be sold on the market for ridiculous prices. Then you have to find MORE crafted items to be able to craft better gear, its like an endless circle of money sinks.

Most boring game had to be Ragnarok for me, as soon as I got close to around the job 45 stage as a Priest it was pretty annoying to level up, that is why I played Ragnarok private server, but even then that didn't add much more to the excitement of the game. Not to mention you have to re-level all over again when I got to job 50 so I could become a High Priest, no thank you I'm going to play something else now.

World of Warcraft. I'm sorry but I don't see how walking up to a monster and clicking on it is fun for hours and hours. The quests aren't much different from the grinding, it's 'kill this monster and bring me the drops'. So in the end you will be walking and clicking on monsters again.

And I'm even used to junk like this, I have multiple 4th job (pretty much the biggest milestone) characters in Maple Story. Now Maple Story is also a retty horrible game, but I do like it.

But hey, we all have our own opinions.

My girlfriend is a huge fan of MMO's, and I've tried my fair share of them. Now, this is just me, but personally I found each and every one to be a carbon copy of the previous one. Grind, XP, buy gear, grind, quest, XP, buy gear, grind...

MapleStory.

Bland, horrible community and there's bugger all to do besides mash attack on pigs until your brain goes numb.

MMO's for the most part are boring as anything. The only MMO I ever had real fun with was Planetside. Call me rank and file but it was nice to not have to pretend that something important was actually going on with the 10,000 hollow NPC's that populate these worlds.

Here's a gun, they where a different colour shirt and think you're a little *****, you better not prove them right.

Champions Online had a nice costume creator, but the gameplay was very controller-like, with blocking and such being a normal part of the attack chain. Luckily I didn't buy that one, considering that after it did come out everything got nerfed...

WoW a million times. Just WoW. I've played Runescape and had more fun than with WoW.

I forgot the name, but I played this seafaring MMO for a while which was pretty cool in concept. The actual sailing bits were pretty neat and naval combat was very nicely done... but the land-based parts were so boring they ruined the whole game for me.

Runescape was pretty bad. It was also my first MMO, so I loved it for quite some time.

However, when I later moved on to World of Warcraft (on its release), it really highlighted just how bad Runescape was. I know many WoW haters argue that all you do is click on an enemy and wait for it to die, but at least in WoW you had magic / combat moves to use during the fight. In Runescape, it literally was click on an enemy and wait for it to die.

I've moved away from the MMO scene now. I played WoW pretty much from release all the way through to Wrath of the Lich King (on and off), and quit once again just before Icecrown Citadel opened up. Since then, I had 7 days of playtime offered to me for free, re-installed it, and made it about 4 days in of about 1-3 hours per day before realising that I really was over it, once and for all. Well, that is until Cataclysm gets released, and then I'll probably be relapsing again...

Every single free MMO I've ever tried was boring and devoid of substance, with the exception of Atlantica. Of the 'pay' MMOs, Ultima Online was pretty dull, and Lineage II had a number of gaping design flaws.

Have not tried: WoW, EVE, and Everquest.

Have tried and liked: Asheron's Call, City of Heroes/Villains, and above mentioned Atlantica.

Champions Online

Hate me all you want fans but several reasons I didn't like it. The main of them all is that for an MMO it was the most unsocial MMO I've ever played. There is no incentive to group together because killing things is such a tiny part of the exp you gain there is no grind, something I don't like anyway, so everyone runs around solo for 90% of the time doing the kills quests or gather missions just to turn in for the exp chunks. The only moments you need help is to take on some so called boss fight that takes a minute then everyone parts ways once more. If I wanted to play solo I'd be on my 360 or such in some game not wasting my money for an online social aspect that no one really gives a second thought to. And though it wasn't advertized as it CO is really all set up for the PVP aspect. The game's classes and powers are all pretty much set around the idea of dishing out more damage then the other guy. All the other little powers like buffs and heals really dont do much even if you put all your effort into it. SO it takes the little bit of stragaty and planing out of the RPG battle idea and wittles it down till your left with just the basic idea of 'kill it before it kills you' I'm sure there are plenty that love the game, no matter what gets put out thats always true, but frankly I loathed it and know plenty feel the same.
