How is GRAW unoriginal? I've never seen a Mexican civil war with terrorists in a modern setting before.
I agree, mr/Mrs. Classyplatypus. I challenge you to name one game that featured Mexicans fighting a civil war because the government wanted to for a joint north american security agreement. so the rebels kidnapped the mexican president and the american president and killed the canadian prime minister.

oh, and it has to have come out before the first GRAW game.
Rainbow Six Vegas
Um... no. Rainbow Six Vegas was also original, however unlikely. You go to Mexico and find out terrorists cross the border and basically hold Vegas for ransom. Nothing to do with a treaty or kidnapping any presidents. Completely different other than "involves Mexico".

Take elements of Starship Troopers such as, well everything except the bugs, Ringworld, and a few other sci fi classics and put it together and what do you get? Halo. Other than a few names, there is very little anything that could be considered original about the story other than how many pieces of pre-existing art that can be ripped off and integrated into one story.
I take it you've either only played the trilogy of games, or not played them at all? I'll refer you to my previous posts, and if you bother to read the prequel novels or play all of the games then you'll see it actually has one of the most original stories I know. People are always quick to dismiss Halo as a generic ripoff of various things when it is actually nothing of the sort, and people don't bother to even look to see whether or not that opinion is actually right or wrong. In this case, I'm sorry to say this to you, but it's wrong.

I agree with halo being a generically based story, but as far as unoriginal? Not necessarily. Yes Aliens land and you must defend the world against them but c'mon, the game takes the plot to unexpected places frequently enough to avoid the cookie cutter label. Plus look at all the games that have copied halo. Gears of War was basically just halo but the bad guys came from underground instead of way above it.

Take elements of Dune such as, well everything except the technophobia, a few other sci fi classics, and put it together with a few ancient myths and what do you get? Star Wars.

Oh wait, story =/= setting. And I for one despise generalizations.

Overdone storylines? Hmmmm.... JRPGs.
How does this even make sense? Care to explain?

Overdone storylines? Hmmmm.....FPSs. See how that makes no sense at all?

JRPG's tend to recycle story lines and plot points like trained parrots. So so FPS's. So we're both making sense.
Aye, but we've both ignored the OPs question and generalised a genre. Pick an RPG game.

And while we're here...Oblivion.

Tales of Symphonia, combined so many cliches into a single story line. Wasn't a bad story though.
I have to agree.

Plus it features horrible plot twists that are painfully obvious. The main characters in that game act like morons.
In Lloyd's defense he was an actual idiot that didn't know multiplication table.
well the story had its moments and for those I enjoyed the game.

I didnt like halo, i felt like the aliens where always running from me.
Try it on a harder difficulty then, cause the AI gets more aggressive that way.

Heavenly sword [IE God of War].
1 You live in an ancient time.
2 You have Swords on Chains
3 You wear very little clothing.

the only difference was the addition of breasts.

mgs has a good storyline unlike halo!
This specimen displays numerous attributes of the fanboy species remarkably well. You may notice that his argument is not relevant to the current discussion, and also that his argument is hardly an argument at all. Another thing to take note of is the fact that this fanboy seems to assume that quality in one object precludes quality in another object, a fallacy that we humans find laughable yet it is an integral part of fanboy instinct.
