Most un-original story in a game ever

The worst story in a video game ever is obviously Pong.
I mean, c'mon, you're just white dot 1 playing with white dot 2. There's no backstory there, people. Personally, my guess is that white dot 2 had an affair with white dot 1's wife, and white dot 1 found out. So now they play Pong in order to win the heart of their fair lady...er, dot.

Pong had no Story. Neither did most arcade games of Yore.

This isn't about quality of story either-it's about Originality or lack therof. Two different things.

Halo, take a look at the factions of Starcraft, the take a look at Halo's. It's kind of like coke and pepsi, both are good but people have their own personal opinions about the which most likly demonises the other, but we all know coke came first.

And StarCraft was an almost exact rip-off of Warhammer 40k.

Which in turn, at least partially, ripped off several major mythologies and Tolkien, adapting it to space.

Have you even played the game? If so you'll know that it actually has quite an original story, although to fully understand you need to read up on the whole backstory and play all the games too. It also does something that no other alien-shooting game does, as far as I'm aware, and that's to give the aliens a sense of culture, sentience and basically have them as a proper social group, for lack of a better word. It treats them as people rather than just enemies to kill (notable example, is the detail given in describing the homeworld, culture and society of the Elites, or Sangheili, in Halo: The Cole Protocol).

If you've played the games then fair enough. If not, then you have absolutely no right to make a comment on it just for the sake of joining the Hate Wagon.

I've played and beaten the campaign of all 3 games (And I found the first one to be decent!). Not original at all, seems like a mix of various sci-fi books I've read in the past, except half-assed and just plain bad.

No need to join on the hate "Halo haters" wagon.
P.S. I found the book (I managed to finish half of it before I couldn't stomach it anymore) bland and boring.

Fair enough, since you've played the games and at least tried to read the books then I have no problem with your opinion. If there's a 'Hate Halo Haters' wagon then I'm probably one of the founders or drivers, which several people on this site can testify to. However, since you played the games and so on then I accept your opinion and have absolutley no problem. I think the story was original, and I've read a lot of books and played a hell of a lot of sci-fi FPS's. However, your opiniopn is fine too. Although, I have to mention that since all the books are written by different authors, there are different writing styles and different parts of the story covered in different ways. But fair enough, you have an opinion and I accept that. I just don't feel personally that Halo's story is unoriginal, since I've never seen it done in such a way before, and it's the first series of any kind I've seen where the 'enemy' has it's own culture and society that is explored and studied by the series itself (namely, the Covenant and more importantly, the Sangheili/Elites).

I played all three, each when it first came out. You will only get all of this out of the story if you read all the books. As far as the games are concerned, my original post sums up the story quite well.

See what I typed just now for PersianLlama. Again, since you have experience of Halo, I accept your opinion. As it is, opinions differ, so fair point, but I still believe Halo's story is original and unique for the reasons already stated.

Red Faction : Guerilla because it's essentially the exact same storyline as Jak 2.

That game heavily reminded me of the Jak series. I'm glad I'm not alone.

too add to this I will say WWII games from the AMERICAN perspective! America did not win the war single handedly. Try making a game about the soviets in WWII, like the movie Enemy at the Gate; great movie by the way a must watch for any WWII history buffs.

or, take a look at then both, then realize they are simply badly done rip offs of WH40K

Starcraft at least has origianal gameplay while game reviewers who like halo admit it's gameplay was frankenstiened by to other FPS'

Yeah I get it, the Nazi's were bad dudes. You guys were the heroes this one time. Now that we understand that we can all drop the subject.
I also feel largely similar to most modern warfare games too actually as human versus human wars have always bored me to tears.
