The N64 controller (it was just terrible) and the original Xbox controller before they redesigned it and made it smaller... I mean come on, how big does your logo need to be!?

For me, the N64 controller was one of the most uncomfortable controllers I have ever picked up, especially because I was only about 9 when the N64 came out, so it was difficult for me to wrap my hands around it. Even my dad, when he played a marathon session of Resident Evil 2 on the N64 complained that his hand was cramping up. I mean, just look at it

It was cool that you could get it in different colours though. I had the gold controller, whereas my brother had a green controller.
Yeah, most people lack the third appendage to manipulate the stick competently. I think Japans obsession with tentacles influenced the design.

I would say the Gamecube is the most conformable controller I have ever seen and not the gamecube controller, the gamecube itself.
So what is the most uncomfortable controller you have used or seen?
The controller looks weird but it's actually pretty easy to use. It's like using the Nintendo equivalent of the Xbox360 controller (an X360 controller missing the left bumper)

The most awkward controller I've used is actually the mouse/keyboard setup.

I know right so many pointy ends and that handle can get in the way sometimes.

PSP would probably be the worst for me.

Having a finger on the analogue stick and the shoulder buttons while managing to keep it in your hands can be just plain painful.

That, and the Wii remote.

Most uncomfortable to play a game with....The Wiimote.
The most uncomfortable in general? The Gamecube controller.
NINTENDO YOU NEED BETTER DESIGNERS! MAKING A MINI TV SCREEN A CONTROLLER IS NOT GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!

I forgot about the PSP and change my vote to that. mouse/keyboard doesn't get painful as quickly as the damned PSP (it isn't as bad though, when playing PSX classics though)

Also, has anyone noticed that the N64 controller very similar to the Wii-mote and Nunchuck if they were glued together? Seriously, lay your Wii-mote horizontal and your nunchuck right under and you have an N64 controller minus the extra prongs.

NES controller anyone? Other than that, i find keyboard and mouse to be almost as bad, in fact maybe even worse, it's been a while since i've played my NES.
The NES controller was the best controll ever, simple and responsive!

There's a Logitech G13 in the Product Showroom of the place I work at. I tested it and I have no idea how it's supposed to help/feel comfortable.

Which is kind of funny 'cause Logitech's controllers are usually fantastic.

I see what you mean. The way we accessed the joystock was that we almost completely ignored the D-pad. I don't know why they didn't dispense of the D-pad altogether and just have the joy stick.

Oh dear. PS1 Dualshock will do me, thanks.
Or PS2 Dualshock, it's basically the same.
I never got how people can call ps2 controllers good but xbox controllers terrible.
They're the exact same thing right down to the button layout except that an analog stick swaps position with the d-pad which is no big deal.
It's a huge deal for me because I almost ALWAYS use the D-Pad and the right button is impossible to hit on that ghastly thing.
Well at least the 360 is an enormous improvement over this heap of shit. I was never able to hit the start/select buttons on that thing. http://wongjasonh.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/xbox_cont.jpg

That's actually what kills it for me. I hate the placement of the left analog stick. I find it incredibly difficult to control when my hand is in kind of a closed form rather than an open one I get with a Dual Shock. With that said, still a huge improvement over the original Xbox controller.

That would be the most uncomfortable controller ever, especially if you don't have a table to set it on and have to have it on your lap!
I've used it before, and I have to say that controller is epic. I don't think I've ever felt more badass playing a game before or since.

Me and Sony controllers don't go hand in hand (excuse the pun).

The playstation controllers I've never really gotten used to even after years of use, especially in shooters where I just flat-out refuse to play on the PS3 now.

And don't even get me started on the PSP's controllers. It seems when designing a console, controls are the very last thing Sony focus on.

I'm sorry, but the Wii U controller looks like the biggest piece of shit I have ever seen. It's the size of a hardback book. I just keep looking at it and thinking of the Sega Gamegear in design. And why did they put a touchscreen on it? How many games could possibly take advantage of that? Zelda? Sports games? And new Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles? Oh, no, wait a minute. The Wii U only supports one controller at a time. So any Four Swords style gameplay or sport play entry is out of the question.

I mentioned this in the 'perfect controller' thread.

Can't stand the bastard; it's ugly, unwieldy, and the triggers. Good lord, those shockingly terrible triggers.

I'm jealous as hell of the PS library (PS2 specifically), but one of the main reasons I'm glad I'm an Xbox man is because of those controllers.
This just floors me. Even my Xbox playing buddies prefer the PS3 controller to the 360. They prefer the shoulder buttons and the d-pad. Just the other day, my friend was complaining about how shitty the d-pad is on the 360 controller.

Personally, I don't really think either of them is better than the other. I prefer the PS3, but I'm also much more used to it over the 360.

I hated the original Xbox controller more than anything else. I found the N64 controller to be comfortable, despite being ugly as hell.

And playing it today my hands always cramp up in like 5 minutes of playing the SNES.

The problem with the N64 controller was that there wasn't any way of holding it that gave you access to all the buttons. After a while, I got a third party controller for it that was more like the Gamecube controller, and it was so much better.

I prefer the Xbox controller over the PS3 - the edges are too precise, it doesn't fit my hands well, and the triggers don't feel right. It's all subjective of course - just depends on your hands.

Definitely N64. That thing was just ridiculous.

I didn't get on board with the Xbox until they'd redesigned the controllers, so I have no experience with the behemoth.

The Dreamcast controller felt great at first, but it did start to feel clunky after a while.

Dishonorable mention goes to the Wii controller, when used sideways like in NSMBW, Super Paper Mario, and others. I hate that, and wished they'd at least come up with some sort of adapter you could stick the thing into to sort of fill it out more.

Pretty surprised at all the N64 Controller hate, really. I personally wouldn't call it uncomfortable, just.. "curiously designed". The Gamecube controller was easily the most comfortable controller I've ever used, too.

For me it would have to be any PlayStation controllers. So that's both the PS1/2/3 controller and the PSP. The PSP was simply far too small and physically hurt my hand after about 15 seconds of play, and the actual PS controller features cheap feeling buttons, awful trigger buttons, a D-pad which I find inferior to that of the Xbox 360, and clueless analogue stick placement that requires stretching your left thumb awkwardly across the controller rather than resting it upwards. Basically, the hand naturally would have the thumb on the D-pad which seems just plain wrong these days. Also, you hold either handle more like a sandwich than.. well, a handle. There's nowhere for my other fingers to go with that thing.

I mean, just look at it.

Bleurgh.

.. in case you didn't realise, I don't like the PS controller all that much.
