If only that was true, a large amount of the community are jaded vultures feeding off others. Not all but most, I watched a documentary on stay at home mothers (or working Moms) insulting a Woman saying she was a bad mother because she had tweeted about her son drowning in her pool a week after he died. They said things like, "Your son is better of dead, yoou let him die" even though the baby sitter caused it. This may be the case with most social networks though. Since after all trolls are hungry relentless and have no boundaries as long as they get "Lolz". (or feel better about thier sad unfulfilled lives) Its on youtube if you can find it, I'm not sure what it is called though.DuplicateValue said:Surely Twitter's level of friendliness depends on how nice your friends are, no?Patrick_and_the_ricks said:Either Twitter, Gamespot, Youtube or 4Chan which you already said. Also GTA 4 online has alot of ass holes as well. (And any COD game)Eukaryote said:This one. Go away.
But in all seriousness, it is probably 4chan.
Where is this happening? I mostly hang around the specific video game boards, sometimes the TV show and anime boards, and I never run into this kind of thing. Stupid people, yes, but never anybody that outright malicious.Sir John The Net Knight said:GameFAQs.
The site quite literally a safe-haven for cyber-bullies and should probably be completely shut down. The community prides itself on it's ability to gang up on and attack users it deems as unworthy, and will even go so far as to launch attacks on personal blogs and other sites if they feel they can get away with it. And they pretty much can, because the site administrators as so incompetent that they actually expect the community to monitor itself. Much akin to the proverbial inmates running the asylum.
Some might say 4chan is worse. But having never had to deal directly with that community, I can only go by what I hear of their atrocities, whereas I have witnessed the atrocities of the GameFAQs community first hand.
I have had good conversations with people on GameFAQs. Maybe it's because I tend to stay in the contributor forums though.Sir John The Net Knight said:There is no such thing as intelligent discussion on GameFAQs. That consider the possibly of dissenting against group-think and that's the second highest crime you can commit on that site. Please don't ask me what the first is, I have my reasons for not divulging it.marter said:Youtube and 4Chan are my picks. I don't really get that with GameFAQs. I've actually had intelligent discussions on there a couple times. I also haven't seen all that much flaming, at least not as much as I've heard about from some of you guys.
Fair enough. I guess my experience there isn't "typical" then.Sir John The Net Knight said:The contributor forums account for less than .01% of that community. They hardly fit in with the general cyber-trash that inhabits the boards.marter said:I have had good conversations with people on GameFAQs. I second that. I tried the open BETA after not playing dota in 4 years. stuck up little pricksColdFire75 said:Absolutely true by leagues! I sometimes visit Final Fantasy boards soon after the game's release, and I never see that kind of problem. Can you name a specific board where cyber-bullying is frequent?Sir John The Net Knight said:You've obviously never been to the social boards or any high-traffic board on that site. That's where the majority of the truly despicable users can be found.blalien said:Where is this happening?
