After a short while of thinking, I'll go for farting and burping in GTA2.
You needed a use for the horn button whilst not in a car.

Detecting infrared lasers is quite useful.

And I'm adding the "OMG CHOOSE YOUR OWN ENDING BY SELECTING YOUR FAVOURITE CARD" in fable 2.

I'd have to say being able to make a bit more noise with the chainsaw bayonet in GOW is most useless

The side jobs in Fable 2. Who plays a medieval RPG to role play as a blacksmith?
This. I had to sit through the ENTIRE blacksmith career so I could get that achievement. Yeah, I could have done another job, but I was already at 2* so I figured I might as well finish it. Yeuch.

Healing yourself in MGS3. When you get shot or the like, a red section appears in your health bar, and by healing with various medical supplies you can make this go away more quickly. It doesn't restore the red bar to be part of your health, so there's no point to healing. And you'll rarely run out of healing items, unless you suck.

You could use those to steady your aim when sniping. At least in 2 you could.

For mine I would have to say the bromides in the Lunar series. Nice to look at but that's about it.

That wasn't pointless. It made everyone go insane trying to figure out what it was for. Turns out it didn't actually do anything, but it was still funny.

Blinking in Alone in the Dark, if Unskippable is to go by. Why did they feel the need to relegate a reflex to a mandatory action button?

It's mandatory in 2 spots of the game. And it's for an effect.

Do you think that not being able to have the flashlight and the weapon in doom 3 was for laziness of the developers? No, it had an effect: either you see, or you shoot.

Same goes with AitD.

everything except the whipfist in [Prototype].
whipfist is just the all-round-pwnage, it can slice a chopper in two, a tank is no problem at all, and it is the best at crowd control.

The "Unarmed" skill in Fallout 3. Seriously, who fights thing with bare hands or brass knuckles unless it's a last resort?

The most useless thing I can think of is the Eavesdrop perk from Call of Duty 4. The ability to hear enemy voice chat is rendered useless if the only thing they're doing is either being silent or playing music.

The frying pan in Left 4 Dead 2. Who the hell's gonna use that?
Me: it'll be hilarious!
Me to same reason, i think a lot of people will eventually use it for some light relief, shits and giggles really.
