So, you finally open that golden treasure chest to find the game's ubercannon that all other weapons supposedly pale in comparison to.
But have you ever found any "Best weapon in the game" that ends up being unwieldy or actually less useful than an earlier weapon?

The Zodiac in Ratchet & Clank Going Commando was supposed to be the best gun, but its predecessor, the RYNO II, is far better. In fact, half of the guns in the game are.

Actually not a weapon, but in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, you get an Exoskeleton which is supposedly the best armor, but the SEVA suit has a higher radiation protection and makes you less detectable, for the cost of a little less defense, therefore the ultimate exoskeleton is not the best suit.

Fallout 3's Fatman.
Sure, it was fun breaking it out every now and then and nuking something into radioactive oblivion, but most of the time it just sat in my house and looked pretty.
Too heavy, too much splash damage, and too little ammo to be of any real use to me.

The rocket launcher from the original Half-Life. Long load time + One shot+ Not much ammo= One crap gun

I felt that the BFG 9000 in Doom 3 was far less superior than the original dooms

S.T.A.L.K.E.R's RPG-7, Gauss Rifle and all rifle mounted grenade launchers.

In of themselves they are fantastic, long range destructive power that amounts to a one hit kill on practically every enemy, even the Pseudogiant.

Problem is, they weigh so much you can carry a few hundred rounds of ammunition instead of one of these, which is far, far more useful in the context of exploring the Zone and surviving the X-labs.

Plus the ammunition is rarer than hens teeth until the very end of the game, when you don't need them anyway. So far I've found about 15 GP-25 rounds (About 7 fired at big mutants from my Fast AK, the rest waiting for Pripyat and a Groza), 2 RPG 7's (and launchers) and a lone, single round for my M203, which I'm holding onto for an emergency.

It sucks to have all these explosive firing weapons and not being able to use them because they're too heavy to carry around and the ammo's too rare to fire at anything but the rarest enemies.

The Railgun from Deus Ex: Invisible war.

A lot of hype around it, there was even a mission to retrieve the prototype. But with little ammo and lousy accuracy it really wasn't as good as they said it was.

I preferred the silent Sniper Rifle, or the Nanodarts.

I'm not sure, but I think Thompson was much better than Stg 44 in Medal of Honour: Allied Assault, even though Stg 44 was hyped to be the über-Waffen.

I knew someone would say it, yes the zodiac wasn't very good was it?

Not necessarily. I always switch it for the Plasma Rifle at the first opportunity, because plasma weapons generally work much better on shields and on the Flood. Plus, automatic fire FTW. Gets even better in Halo 2 and 3 with dual wield... :)

I concur. Usually I don't fire low ammo guns as it is, but Fatman is the worst perpetrator by far.

Agreed, it was also provided more firepower than was actually needed in pretty much any fight (see also, the MIRV launcher) so every nuke felt like a waste.

My own suggestion, however, would have to be the Nuke in Turok 2 followed closely by the Cerebral Bore (as awesome as it was).

The former had a pitiful amount of ammo and was only useful against minions while the latter (while incredably gorey and impressive) was far too slow and dramatic to be of any real use besides pissing around and tormenting the cannon fodder troops.

I really despise the Hammer of Dawn in Gears of War solely because with the exception of a few points you really don't need it and it takes to long to charge up and theres so many disadvantages... I died so many times in Gears of War games just trying to aim the sights because I have to duck out of cover to do so and I get shot to pieces. Besides in single player it demands I part with my Longshot and frankly my true love and I shall never part ways.
