The first dagger you pick up in Morrowind.

Most new players think "Oh, cool! A free weapon! Let's go kill some mudcrabs!"

They soon would be proven terribly wrong...
Mudcrabs....foul creatures...steer clear of them.
And cliff-racers, uhhh I HATE those things!

For me, it's a toss up between the Archimedes Orbital Laser from New Vegas

Oh God, I totally know what you mean, dude. The majority of the Energy Weapons that I tried in New Vegas seemed to suck harder than a Dyson Vacuum!

But maybe it had something to do with me NEVER leveling up my skill in that area...?

I'm old school. Lead is the way to go!
The Laser RCW was pretty decent, though it burned through ammo like a ************, and the Alien Blaster (if you chose the Wild Wasteland perk) was devastating. I killed Legate Lanius in two/three shots with the blaster, though I did max out the Energy Weapons skill when I did that.
But for the most part I was like you, I stuck to the good old fashioned lead slingers, or the explosive and flame weapons. I used the grenade machine gun to wipe out Ceaser's camp on three separate runs through the game.

Speaking of the "Wild Wasteland" Perk, I didn't notice that many changes...

Do you remember what it DID change?
Not much changed outside of the Alien Blaster and some aliens where you'd otherwise find mercenaries and a rail-gun (I can't remember the name).
Leaving GoodSpring, you'd run across a skeleton wearing the 'suave gambler's hat' (very similar to Indie's iconic hat)lying in a discarded fridge.
In Nipton you'd come across a pair of charred skeletons named Owen and Beru, lying in the same position as Owen and Beru in Star Wars.
Near the Devil's Throat ( I think) and Bitter Springs you'd come across a large, undetonated nuke.
And after leaving the robot factory (where you re-program FISTO) you'd get attacked by three mean old lady bandits
Also, Mr. New Vegas would occasionally mention that he tried to measure his charisma on a Vigor Tester and had the machine burst into flames.

So basically the Perk is "useless" (yay it fits in the thread, err...sort of) besides providing additional entertainment?

The "wind-up cannon" in inFamous that you get as a special move when playing as "Good Cole". I don't even know the official name of the power up, but who cares? --> it was useless. It took way too long to load, so that by the time it fired off, the enemy you were trying to hit has long danced out of the way. Worse, now that you've missed, you've used up value energy that could have gone into ANY OTHER USEFUL ATTACK (really, you would have been better off zapping them to death). Then, to add insult to injury, when you play as "Evil Cole", his special power up is Arc Lightning! (I mean, I found Arc Lightning just as useless in combat, but at least it was fast and made for good fun when destroying stuff!)

Essentially, though the Alien Blaster can be really useful against high level/ high health enemies (Death Claw Mother, Death Claw Alpha Male and Legate Lanius)

Zodiac and Clank Zapper/Shocker from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. About a million bolts each, low ammo capacity, and low effectiveness.
The Zodiac?

That thing was like instant death for most things on the screen.
Other weapons were more efficient for less ammunition. The giant Protopet went down really easily to a few Tetrabombs and some Plasma Storms.

The Bonesaw in Team Fortress 2, since The Amputator is the exact same thing, except The Amputator has the taunt-heal bonus, and when added with the Crusader's Crossbow give you better health regeneration.

I'm going to go ahead and say the freakin M4 carbine from Prototype.

Then again ALL frearms pales in comparsion when your body can become a Armor figure (Biomass power) with a Arm blade and you deal more damage then any Armor(Tank) ever.

Well its a BB gun. What do you expect?
The unique version actually rocks pretty hard, plus the ammo weighs nothing in HC mode (100 round mag also rocks). The reg versions can be used to repair it, so its not entirely useless.

EDIT: Wait, that's the NV version, yeah the FO3 version does suck.

Violence is an inherent part of many videogames, even Oddworld where the main character is a pacifist, has no problem mind controlling mooks to do his work for him, so weapons are usually used as a hard rock is better than a clenched fist unless you are the goddamn rock or something.
What is the most useless videogame weapon you have ever come across in an RPG, MMO, FPS etc.?
For me that is Single Shotguns in New Vegas.
1) One shot at a time, most likely dead by the time your done reloading.
2) Long reload time for one damn shell.
3) Does jackshit.
shoot, jump back, shoot, jump back, shoot, dead.

The Klobb from GoldenEye 64. You couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from 10' with that thing.

In New Vegas, Abilene's BB gun [special BB gun] can kill most enemies in one shot if hidden. It's pretty much the best silenced weapon I've found.

I never thought I'd be speaking in defence of that thing, but..

1) You can get pretty much from the get go.
2) At point blank range and decent guns skill, it will blast geckos and other lightly armoured pests into red chunks.
3) If you're planning on using shotguns, you will have a high agility (and the rapid reload skill at level 2) the reload time can be drastically reduced.

Basically.. yeah.. it's an early game weapon and won't do anything against well armoured enemies (neither will any shotgun without the shotgun surgeon perk) but it's hardly useless.

To do the same thing here..

It depends if you focus on laser or plasma.

Plasma Caster in VATS with math wrath, plasma spaz and maxed out skills = a weapon which does similar damage to a brush gun (second biggest rifle in the game) yet costs fewer APs to fire than most pistols. Ow.

Lasers, yeah, you don't do much damage per hit and will thus have trouble with armour but that's not the point. You're going for critical hits. It's pretty easy to get a 1/4 chance to critical hit with laser weapons. With a gatling laser, that's 7 criticals a second with extremely high accuracy (compared to other minigun weapons). The damage adds up.

Plus, universal ammunition which can be easily recycled. Automatic DT reduction based on how much you overcharge your power cells (max charge cells give -10 DT). The best 'fuck stealth, I wanna blow a guys face off' style sniper weapon in the game. Energy weapons are cool!

The giant teddy bear in Dead Rising. If you want a more serious weapon however.. probably the .32 pistol in Fallout 3. It's garbage.

You forgot the NCR emergency radio saying "They're coming out of the Dam walls!" and "Game over, man! Game over!"
