Haven't you ever watched Law and Order: SVU? Women can't do such horrible crimes. I'm sure she has a brain tumor that made her do it, or maybe she was molested as a child. Or both.

I'm being sarcastic, natch. This is incredibly stupid. Keep in mind all those people killed in the Middle East. The one guy who got anything at all only got three months. The US justice system needs to be nuked from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

The worst part is that the defense tried something like that.

Judge Robertson said the defence had asked him to note her "own dysfunctional attitude to matters sexual".

He said her husband was 12 years her senior and she had limited knowledge of appropriate sexual boundaries.

I'm only slightly surprised seeing that it was the mother and not the father this time around. As far as the number of years, its simple, the "justice" system isn't always about justice and some people will get off too easily or be convicted with a much higher degree than necessary. Well I'd say a 5 year prison sentence (on average), followed by consistent psychological help (for both victim and offender) is a reasonable term for these kinds of offences. That said, I think this case in particular needs to be taken a little more seriously than what it has been taken.

5 years for permanently traumatizing a child? Good to know you feel that way.

What in the hell do you think the "psychological help" part was for? In cases like this, help is needed for both daughter and mother. It's certainly a much better step than just throwing her into a cell for the rest of her life and forgetting about her.

The sentance was suspended though. She only got a year.

I hope at least she never ever gets to see her daughter again.
