So i got to thinkin', since everyone's getting in on the motion gaming thing, i figure why not make a 3D fighting game based on moves that YOU create? I'll breakdown how the game plays; you're in a giant arena (about the size of a city) and you find the closest opponent and beat the bejesus out of them, DBZ style. That's it. You perform the physical punches, kicks, counter movements and block motions to do your basic moves, the rest of them you'll have to announce into your mic, like for example, you motion a basic 1-2 punch, a quick kick to the nuts and finish it by yelling "foresta destroya!" which causes your character to blast your opponent with a giant wave of fire. You can even create your own moves to perfect your technique!

Now of course I can see alot of major obstacles when it comes to execution of the game, like the motion capturing itself, look how much trouble wiimote had when it first came out, they even had to make a separate attachement to fix it. But i figure that might just be because of bad programming, but im not sure. Another problem is the voice commands, but i figure add in a voice recognition option so that way you can make the game identify with your voice so no problems arise.

But what do you guys think?

Would be funny atleast. The game should be called "I just watched a Kung Fu flick..."
Not against the idea, but most would look silly. (Me included, but Id be tempted to buy it if it was not shovelware)

I think motion controls is a giant waste of space. There is not a single game I've tried that has been worth 5?. It goes like this:

first 1-5 minutes: Ooooh, this is cool.

next 5 minutes: Huh...the novelty is wearing off, and the gameplay is really simplistic. I've played bowling games/golf games/tennis games/fighting games that looked a lot better, sounded a lot better and last but not least PLAYED a lot better than this.

minute 20->: This is really not that fun, and the gameplay is awful compared to "real" games. Thank god I didnt buy this crap and is just playing it at a friends house...

So. I think that while the idea might sound like fun on paper, I also think it would be awful in practice. Thank god for controllers and real animations.

No...just...heavens no.

Fighting games are one of those genres I think should stay out of the whole motion control nonsense. Last thing I want is to exert myself and flail around like an idiot while playing a game as input intensive as fighting games. I don't want some faux work out when playing and enjoying my damn game.

Fighting games work absolutely fine with buttons and arcade sticks, motion controls would just be needlessly complex. Hell getting a motion sensing device to accept your moves as viable is one big problem, and shouting into the mic to do other moves is disruptive and stupid, and lets not forget how destructive such a thing would get. You think Wiimote accidents are bad? wait till you see idiots playing something like that.

Those are just a few of the problems that a fighting game would face if it stepped into the realm of motion controls. It may sound fun in concept...sorta, but there are so many ways it could go horribly wrong in execution. I don't wanna feel tired after 3 rounds of arm flailing against my friend, hell current fighting games can be mentally exhausting, I wanna be physically relaxed while playing.

Now it may work for the more realistic type fighters like Boxing, wrestling games or MMA, but for more intense fighters (ya know..the FUN ones) it would;d just suck. It would just feel so unsatisfying and awkward and I feel it would just devolve into mindless flailing instead of any real execution of skill.

Soooo, the game is insanely unbalanced because I'm (in real life) a counter attack based fighter who after years of playing fighting games can predict moves roughly three attacks before they happen and can react at the drop of a hat. ...would be fun if you used a more realistic combat model, everyone has fireball attacks in games it would be more fun if I could grab a dudes arm and break it which would force him to stop using that arm.
actually that's kind of the "hidden" point of the game, to get people off their asses and move around a bit. that counter move you just described; part of the game, of course that's if your opponent doesn't break free because remember, even if you grab them from behind and start to bloodchoke them, they can still jab you in the stomach with an elbow and your character would let go cause of the stun. assuming of course your character's defenses are low.

Sounds like you're making a game for Kinect op.
actually was planning on making it for the wii, 360 and ps3
Then how exactly would you implement kicks? PS3 and Wii motion controls are upper body only with no camera.
i figure with the ps3 and the wii i'd have to add peripherals like how punch-out for the wii did with the gloves
