You know, at this point I kind of perceive Hitler as basically a Genghis Khan or Attila the Scourge of God, i.e. people who were part of that era are quite dead now and WW2 needs to be moved to "ancient history" and not milked to death by pop culture
The difference is that Genghis Khan no longer has a following of Mongolians who want to conquer China.

But on the flip-side, there are still skinheads and racists who agree with Hitler's motives.

Also, there are still plenty of living people who were alive during World War 2. This may come as a shock to you, but there are plenty of people on the planet who are more than 71 years old. So how is it ancient history?
Being alive during that time and being old enough to understand what the fuck was going on is sorta different though, there's not many left that actually lived through it.

Yes there are? There are plenty who would have been in their 20s during World War 2. There are also plenty of people who had to deal with the consequences of World War 2.

Just because they're not on the internet (where you probably spend a good deal of time) does not mean that they're not still living. Fuck man, Queen Elizabeth was born 1926. She would have been 19 by the end of World War 2.

And there's DEFINITELY enough living people for it to not yet be considered ancient history.

You're thinking of World War 1.
I didn't say anything about the internet dude...I just said there's not as many people as you're saying still alive that know what was going on at that point in time still around and/or lucid enough. Yeah, she may have been born in 1926, so were my grand parents, of which three are dead.

And you were talking about Hitler and Nazis in general, not the fallout after their fall from power. Didn't say anything about it no being ancient history either.

Damn, everyone saying no seems to just think the worst of people...I just can't see what is so wrong with the - ABSOLUTELY TRUE - phrase "Hitler did nothing wrong".
I'm going to assume the appropriate rejoinder to that is "He did EVERYTHING wrong!"

In a sense, yeah, WW2 is drifting out of "a thing that happened" into legend. Though, that hardly makes it immune to pop culture, rather pop culture will likely be the only place it's discussed to any extent.

Also, in years to come it seems likely that Hitler will be redeemed ala Vlad the Impaler. Not by Neo-Nazis or those trying to be "edgy", but by people distant enough from the events to see him as just another public domain character.

That will never happen while Israel exists.

That is... actually a very good rape joke, and I laughed pretty hard, so thank you.

but back to my original point, I tend to find 4Chan's humor more like going up to a greiving widow and going "Ha, your loved one committed suicide" like theres no actual joke there as far as I can see, but clearly some motherfuckers get off on it.

I had to meet a Holocaust survivor for a history project. I got to hear her story which involved family dying and her being gangraped at 12 by evil German sickos at the behest of a high ranked female German who wanted to watch.
This is something I genuinely didn't know- There were female Nazis? Like in the actual military?

Higher up even than that. One of the big name ones that I can think of is Ilse Koch.

A true femnazi [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilse_Koch]
