I was looking at the top grossing list at imdb and decided to do a quick check which were "original stories". Now I'm not talking about original as in not cliché but just not based on previous works. I was quite surprised. (look in spoiler)
Are we movie goers really so afraid of paying to see something new?
So my main question is, how often do you go and see movies that are not part of a franchise you know or books you've heard of?
EDIT: I should clarify, I'm not talking about how different the movies are from other peoples works, sorry I marked avatar. The point I was making is that it seems like people are only paying to see already established franchises (or whatever you want to call them).
I guess this is partly true for games as well.
