I just do not really get the hard-core violence that comes in some movies. I just can?t get into movies about mutilation and torture. I also don?t like excessive swearing and stuff. I think too much of that and it just sends the wrong message of what is cool. That is the stuff I can understand people not liking.

Really, I just like the kick butt stuff, where you are just this awesome guy that goes in and just takes out this whole group of guys. I like the kind of stuff where I guy goes and does things that no one else can do and makes it look cool. Some of my favorite movies are solely based around a guy going up against armies of people and taking them out one by one. That kind of stuff is the stuff I like.

Ok, so..get this. i was in the midst of watching Ninja Assassin on Blu-ray, my mom walks in and clearly doesnt like the violence involved and leaves. near the end, she comes back in and tells me that there is something wrong with me for liking violence and says that violence is just as bad as watching porno. and she told me that I either have to have my headphones on to watch those kinds of movies or have it on a ridiculously low volume.

Ok, Its one thing to say that you don't like it. thats fine..you dont HAVE to like it. But to tell me off and make me feel small for taking any kind of enjoyment out of it cause she thinks its mentally sick. that is really unfair. I don't know what to say to her. shes just so narrow minded and negative.

i don't watch movies like Saw or texas chainsaw massacre or any movies that are soley based on nonstop dismemberment in the worst fashion. i like stuff with Ninjas cause they're fukn dope and stuff like 300. what the hell is wrong with that? and of course any use of guns she thinks is sick too.

Does anyone else get this crap? what did you do?
I can see why your mom would say something if you were watching violence movies that were just about hacking and dismemberment. I honestly do not understand the point or appeal to those kind of horror movies.

From what you said, you do not watch that kind of stuff. You are like me and like all of the kick butt action. So I really cannot understand what your mother?s problem is with the movies. First off, it is not sick to like that kind of stuff. That kind of stuff is just awesome to watch. What isn?t cooler than watching an awesome fight seen where a guy goes in and lays waste to a room full of heavily armed guys. It is just awesome to watch. That is the whole idea behind half of the worlds most successful movies; the other half being about mindless romance, which I?m betting is the type of movie your mom likes ? you won?t get very much blood in those unless you get the in-laws involved.

The only reason why I can justify saying that you should not be watching those movies is if it has excessive swearing, which would explain the call for you to wear headphones. Other than that I really do not understand why she didn?t like you watching it. I mean, even if she doesn?t like violent movies that is just her preference and I really do not think that just because something is not to your taste means no one else can enjoy it. I think that that is just wrong. It is like people burning an orange grove because they don?t like orange juice or bombing a pound because they don?t like puppies. Now I am not attacking your mother. I have not idea who she is. I am just saying that I do not really understand why she said those things to you.

She's not stopping you from watching it, so you don't really have anything to complain about. Just wear the damn headphones.

Actually my mother can stand a lot more violence than I can.

Damn my phobias.
I actually know a lot of my friends parents who are just like that. They actually make their child watch movies to get them scared. In fact I was over at their house and their entire movie collection are horror movies and stuff. Apparent they like blood and guts.

My parents are a little different. They don?t like movies only about killing and mutilating people and stuff, but they do enjoy the kind of movies with shooting and blood. My parents kind of encourage this kind of movies.

The only movies my parents might not like would be the ones that cannot be shown around by little brother without scaring him for life. Other than that they are okay with whatever the heck I want to watch because usually they wind up wanting to watch the same stuff too.

Thankfully, I don't have this problem. Unfortunatly, it's because my mom's favorite movie is Kill Bill, and she listens to Eminem and Korn. I'm fine with KB, but I hate her music.

Dude you think you have it hard. Try watching a movie with a sex scene, even if it IS only 5 seconds long. My mom will always walk in right at that part, and assume the whole movie is like that.

I think you should feel free to what you watch as long as you are not making another watch it agianst there will. You can have your own opinion, but you cant force that opinion on someone else.

Believe me man, I don't get it either. I could go further into detail about somethings that basically makes her a hypocrite. Or very contradictory to her claims. But that is a whole 'nother rant in and of itself. I just try and absolve what she says and does as much as I can until I'm out of her house. which is in the very near future. like..a month or so.

But I do appreciate the support and understanding that you and others have given. i had a strong feeling I was not alone in the matter.

And as a side note, I'm surprised that this thread is still going, lol. It got resurrected long after I thought the topic died. since I was not seeing it in the Hot Threads list for some time.

I am a fan for violence. I will say this right now that I like violence. I just do not like the whole graphic and horror stuff that comes along with hard core violence. I am one of those people who like the action violence that is just awesome to see. I will say this; I do not like violence with bad language in it and with sexual abuse or child abuse in it. It is not even that I don?t like it, but rather I do not like seeing kids copy it. Last week I was cussed out by a kid who could have easily been 6 or 7. At that age you are just barely in the second grade or so. There is no reason for that. That makes me sick. I also do not like it when kids copy what they see on T.V. When something is in a show or movie it is usually not real. There is a reason for that, which is that those things should not happen in real life. You should not try to drive recklessly through town or beat up random people. There are consequences and innocent people can be hurt if you do those things. I think sometimes the wrong message is being sent to children.
Wait, wait, wait. What kids are learning to read and write at 6 or 7? I learned to read at 2, write at 5. Also, you are opposed to sexual education? So you support the spread of unwanted babies and STDs? Looks like we have a hypocrite here. I'd like to have a debate on this, but not in the thread, as it would be off-topic.
When I wrote this, I just wanted to offer people another side to the story. If you read my other posts on this matter I usually went in favor of violence and I thought it might help balance it out if I might include something in there that went against, or at least reasoned, why there should be less violence. Now I admit, you probably do learn to read and write at about 2 or 5 and in that aspect 6 and 7 is a little old. I just personally do not want kids to start off being violent people. If they start that way and get mixed in with the wrong kind of stuff, that just causes a whole lot of stuff that the world just doesn?t need. The main anti-violence point I was kind of putting across is that you should not promote things like drugs and abuse. It is not that I am saying movies and such do, but I think that often young children tend to absorb things in the first few years and when they grow to be a little older they tend to hold that knowledge and be like that 6 or 7 year old that cussed me out. I just think that young children should not be exposed to violence at too young an age. There is a reason why things are rated R or PG-13. It is because little kids should not see certain things. It might give them the wrong message.

I am not writing this to make an enemy out of you, or start an argument. I just think that you did bring up some interesting questions and I felt like answering them. I hope this will help you and others get my thinking.

On a side note, I wasn?t talking about sexual education in my quote. I was just saying that I do not like kids talking about sex acts and stuff that they really should not know about. I am not talking about the sex education you might be thinking of. I am talking about the kind of stuff that is just plain wrong, and comments that are offensive against women. I am sorry if I didn?t make that clear.

Never really had anything like this happen with my mom. Closest thing was a friend of mine, who is a girl, told me it was wrong to watch porn or violent movies/games(shes rather religious). I told her all those trashy romance novels she reads is just porn in book form, when she asked me to prove it I opened one up and started to read to her what was on the page, lets just say the first thing out of my mouth was "the epic size of his penis" that shut her up.
