Alot of people I know have no idea what im on about when I mention Pans Labyrinth or Old Boy and when I mention that they are foreign films they dismiss them because the are close minded and I quote "I hate subtitles, I dont see a movie to read.".

Im really glad they failed the course I was on. People my age (18-25) just dont appreciate good cinema, they would rather watch Transformers 2 instead of Fight Club.
Hello bad stereotype............who the hell dosent love fight club over that bad movie anyhow...too much camera movement and shaking for anything to be seen well...the robots are 200 feet tall...BACK UP A BIT...I DONT NEED TO SEE UP THERE TAILPIPES....maybe her skirt but,..you get the picture lol

I have owned Requiem for a Dream for about 5 months now and I still haven't watched it. I want to, but I have a ton of movies that I own but have not seen; RfaD will have to wait its turn.

OT: Unknown is pretty unknown. Have you heard of Unknown?

Chungking Express is relatively unknown. It probably wouldn't have received a wider audience if Tarentino hadn't saw it, loved it and helped get it released in the states. Wong Kar Wai's films in general are great and underrated (except for maybe In the Mood for Love. Chungking Express is my favorite though.

Ahem...Brick. Think of a noir movie from the 40's set around a modern day high school.
After reading your post, I watched brick on netflix.

Blew my mind. Thanks for the recommendation.

May: Still one of my favorite horror/suspense films from the past few years. It's not really well known outside of it's niche market but it's certainly worth a watch.

The Great Dictator,Modern Times and Duck Soup: Old 30's era black and white comedies featuring Charlie Chaplin and the Marx Brothers respectively. They're actually very well known movies but you'd still be hard pressed to find anyone who has actually seen them. It's a shame too because they're damned good.

Meet the Feebles: directed by Peter Jackson It's um...y'know what? Never mind. Forget I mentioned it.

Pi: This was the film Darren Aronofsky directed prior to Requiem for a Dream. It's not really well known and people tend to ignore it in favor of Requiem and The Wrestler. If you liked his directorial style I would absolutely advise checking this out...you can ignore "The Fountain" though, because it's shit.

Elephant man (1980) - A very moving artistic film by David Lynch. It's one of those films that are timeless and relevant.

Iron Giant (1999) - An obscure film by Brad Bird, nothing much to say except it's a Pixar quality in terms of storytelling and presentation.

Downfall - I don't even know when it was made but it is a very accurate portrayal of Hitler's last day. The only reason you may recognise it is because one of the scene was parodied for Dragonball Evolution. It is a shame because it's a very interesting movie as it was made in
German and a top notch acting performance.
I've watched 2 out of the three movies. Elephant man was amazing, I must admit, but the Black and White production turns many people off. Not me though =P

Kagemusha would probably be my choice.

It's a samurai epic by Akira Kurosawa, and the first epic that he was able to film in colour. It's been overlooked somewhat, in contrast to many of his other films, probably because it was slightly overshadowed by Ran, which followed about five years later. It took Kurosawa a very long time to get funding for this film, so while he was looking for money he painted over 200 scenes to use as storyboards. It shows in the finished product: it's a gorgeous film. Tatsuya Nakadai is wonderful in the lead role, and the final battle sequence is stunning precisely because the audience doesn't actually see any of it; you only have the expressions of the commanders to tell you what's happening.

I know a few people that know Burn after reading. A fairly decent film.

I just posted this into the favorite historical movie thread.
Le Reine Margot.
French movie, about the Saint Bartholomew's Day massacre, a great historical event.

And what is worse, not only the movie is very good, but Isabelle Adjani is playing Margot.
And for those of you that didn't know...

Don't even get me started on who was the actor by her side in that movie.

Moon is really good, and it's probably the closest we'll get to Portal: The Movie.
Now that you mention it, I can see that you are correct. But I would still love a good Portal Movie.

Most people haven't heard of The Fall. I recomend watching it on a big tv with Blu-ray. It's probably the most visually beautiful film I've ever seen.

One of my favorite movies that I watched that I haven't seen anyone talking about is K-PAX. Its about this man in a ward who says hes from the planet K-PAX, I wont spoil anything for anyone who hasn't watched but I will say it is a really interesting story.
K-PAX? My friend told me it was a terrible movie so I didn't watch it =/. On a scale of 0 to The Shawshank Redemption, how good is it?
