Pirates of the Carribean 3: At Worlds End
Yeah, I didn't get why people thought Pirates 3 was so bad, I thought it was a very fitting cap to a very entertaining and well done trilogy.

Second Hand Lions. It came out a while ago, and the critic from the local newspaper panned it. I, on the other hand, definitely enjoyed it. The story was interesting and the characters were enjoyable. I also thought Michael Caine's acting was great.

Fuck Yeah!
Titan A.E didn't deserve the way that was treat, was a pretty good animation with a really good story and kick ass soundtrack!
Starship Troopers was retarded, the plot didn't make any sense, but it was not that type of smart like "2001" type of science fiction, it was pure dumb awesome fun.

And Equilibrium is so remembered as a underrated movie that don't even count anymore.

EDIT: Oh yeah, there was the original Cube, it's a little underrated classic.

Starship Troopers and Predator.

Two under-rated movies which deserve love.

Hudson Hawk.
I loved that movie. I checked out why a little while back and it got reviewed badly because they made it out to be an action adventure in the advertising, rather than the comedy-ish thing it was. Bad as an action adventure, awesome as the comedy it was.

Although I'd have to say my vote would go to Punisher: Warzone. Great movie if you arn't expecting some deep dramatic art piece.

I personally see it as the pinnacle of adventure movies along with Prince of Persia.

Seems like it's a dying genre these days.

It's not dying it's just being "improved" (bleh) with CGI gophers, aliens and completely nuke proof fridges. (Though truthfully I didn't think that movie was as bad as everyone claims either.)

*readies flame shield* The spirit. Sure it was really silly and over the top, but that's precisely why I loved it. it reminded me a ton of the Dick Tracy movie from the early 90's which i also like.

Also Southland Tales felt very Philip K Dick at times, and it could although it did get convoluted at the end it remained funny throughout.

Wow. a good half dozen that I thought of have been noted. ::sigh::

But, my #1 Most-Badly-Reviewed-Yet-Fun-To-Watch Movie hasn't been mentioned: Last Action Hero

Fun, irreverent, self-deprecating, and a rocking soundtrack... Sure, it's a total waste of time, but it's a totally fun waste of time. (much like A-Team)

I have to admit I have watched Starwars Episodes I-III more than once. One small caveat, though... they are GREAT for drinking games.
I've watched Episodes I-III a few times as well, mostly as a marathon of Star Wars. The webcomic Darths and Droids has made the prequel trilogy infinitely funnier now.

I thought Equilibrium was pretty average. The gun katas are quite simply stupid, because one step backward while firing makes them redundant. Even more importantly, the main character's transition from one side of the ideological spectrum to the other wasn't convincingly handled. That's a hallmark of a bad B-movie if ever I saw it, and speaking of which I honestly find Uwe Boll's films more entertaining and think that critics who whine about them miss the point.

for the sake of my sanity and my wishing to not get modded I'm going to leave my differing views on some of the pictures mentioned in this thread to myself

OT: I tried to think of a good movie I really liked that got poor reviews and after some thinking I came up with Big Trouble from 2002. It is a great(if a bit short) ensemble comedy with an amazing cast and for whatever reason sits with a "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Due to its poor showing at the box office it is likely long forgotten in the eyes of many viewers, but I have thrown it in the player on many occasions and enjoyed it thoroughly.

It's certainly a movie which I have no trouble watching with my large family and uptight mother. For that reason alone, I enjoyed it.

My vote has to go to RED.

A DC comic film, played with an awesome cast (Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren, among others), and some of the funniest lines I've heard in ages... and it gets mediocre reviews.

Honestly, watch it sometime for mindless, stupid fun. Some of the most over-the-top, funny action I've seen in ages!

There are loads, but a very recent one was The Book of Eli. . . . It had action,, it had a basic plot that wasn't the worst I have ever heard, it had bad guys and all the usual redemption and anti-heroes etc. It even had a surprising twist...
BobDobolina said:
I think why I hated it was that its basic plot really was one of the worst I ever heard. Just think about the bad guy's supposed motivation for a second: when were people like that ever hesitant about simply writing their own propaganda, deifying themselves and constructing their own cult [http://www.neatorama.com/2007/06/11/craziest-dictator-ever-turkmenbashi/]? If anything it would've made more sense for him to be trying to eliminate the book he was searching for, as unwanted competition.

And the final twist was "surprising" because it made no sense. There were no scenes you could look back at and think "oh... that's what was going on..." and no moments of which it was possible to realize in retrospect that the stuff that made up the twist was already there.
Sorry, I disagree with the statement about there being no clues. There are clues all the way through that are not dis-similar or much less intelligent than in the Sixth Sense. For example:

1. He has a heightened sense of smell when he gets ambushed under the bridge near the beginning.
2. He can only shoot the guys on the rooftops etc. once they have shot at him and he can place them.
3. It's not an Oscar maerial style of drama, it's a bit of fun to get you thinking a little in hindsight after having enjoyed some action.

A film called Shelter, which I think was very well done,

Splice, which received average reviews but I loved.

And Inglorious Basterds, I know it got good reviews, but there's so many things going on under the hood in that film it's a miracle it all works, so I think it deserved more.

one of my favourite movies, Equilibrium, was given a bad review which i don't think that it earned.
it had a deep, original story which left you questioning what socity in general would do for peace and order. the deep story was balanced out with interesting combat (the gun kata).
Yeah...I didn't like <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.237595-2-50-Reviews-Equilibrium-2002>Equilibrium at all. Sorry.

The A-Team, Equilibrium, The Expendables.. those re the first ones that come to mind.

I just gotta say, though. The Resident Evil movies made me gag, and Ultraviolet made me puke.

Starship Troopers was ultimately just intended to be a big joke. And what made it even funnier was that the actors probably weren't even in on it. I don't know how bad the reviews were for it, but I fucking love this movie. Christ, it had a psychic Neil Patrick Harris in a nazi uniform, reading the mind of an alien grub; what's not to like?

We're never going to see anything like Starship Troopers again.
