Starship Troopers and Predator.

Two under-rated movies which deserve love.
What's going Nouw? Predator is Cult-Classic and made of pure, unrefined awesome.

And Starship Troopers... let me put it this way, if I saw Paul Verhoven (the director) and Edward Neumeier (screenwriter) in the street I would beat them to death with a paperback copy of Heinleins novel.

Yes, the book and some of its themes weren't that great, but other parts were pure gold. This is the guy who brought us the Power Armour concept FFS!

If they re-titled Starship Troopers and took away all links to the novel, calling it something like "Tits, Nazis & Bugs in Space" there'd be no problem.
*Cough*Metacritic begs to differ*Cough*

I just think that Starship Troopers deserves just a tad more credit for I don't know, helping Terrans from Starcraft be Terran and at least start up the fantastic T.V. series 'Roughnecks.'

Note that I'd be the first one to scream "STARSHIP TROOPERS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HALO" and etc but I'd rather keep the movie and book to be two very different things.

The Thing (the remake) for me it seemed like a morality tale about "Be careful who you trust"

one of my favourite movies, Equilibrium, was given a bad review which i don't think that it earned.
it had a deep, original story which left you questioning what socity in general would do for peace and order. the deep story was balanced out with interesting combat (the gun kata).
Yeah...I didn't like <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.237595-2-50-Reviews-Equilibrium-2002>Equilibrium at all. Sorry.

I really liked Stay. It had Ewan McGregor in it. It received terrible reviews, but it kept me enthralled to the very end.
I will agree with <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.247197-2-50-Reviews-Stay-2005>Stay though. I thought it was quite good.

Orphan was the best horror movie in a looong time, and Van Helsing was just good-old-fashioned fun, despite basically being a b-movie.

If I remember, A New Hope originally got 1 Star in the reviews. And while Empire is my favorite, time has proven that critics have poor taste. xD

The Boat that Rocked
it was in my top 3 films of 2009 (yes, seriously)

but it got quite an average rating
and was called things like unimaginative and sub-par
which i don't wholly agree with
Oh my god I loved that movie.

but what i am asking really is what, old or new movies do you think were given a grossly unfair review (positive or negative)?
original? equilibrium was basically the giver with gun violence, fahrenheit 451 with christian bale, take yr pick. at the time it came out (post-matrix and all), people seemed especially burned out on dystopian future stuff and super-slick violence. i mean it was fine but people made it out to be the next ecks vs. sever, which is still the third best movie of all time (after cybernator and au revoir les enfants.)
my choice is somewhere between robocop 2 and soldier, especially considering the latter came out about a year before gattaca and brought up a few of the same ideas (the ramifications of genetic engineering come to mind)

Cloverfield.

the thing was genius:

realistic monster movie set from the perspective on humans caught in the diaster.

It's really just a modern, america version of godzilla: Instead of hirosima and nagasaki, it refereed 9/11.

Kick-Ass

A lot of critics couldn't stand the thought of a twelve year old girl mercilessly killing people and using the C-word.

I loved it

Why would you try and ruin Equilibrium by saying it had a good story?

I will not let you besmirch my gun porn sir!

Also, DO IT FOR THE PUPPY! [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcTft47wsDg]

Taking that film seriously would be defying the entire point of watching it in my eyes.

The other guys.

Sure, there was a very small amount of mediocre action, but it was hilarious! Much funnier than reviews indicated.

also, gotta say cop out! i thought it was fine, funny enough cause it's tracy morgan acting like tracy morgan against the dude from the hudson hawk. it's just the real version of black cop, white cop! can't wait for hard to watch to come out.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service. People decried it for being a terrible Bond film, too different, bad acting, and maudlin seriousness. In hindsight, it's one of the most notable films in the entire series.

Hudson Hawk.
I loved that movie. I checked out why a little while back and it got reviewed badly because they made it out to be an action adventure in the advertising, rather than the comedy-ish thing it was. Bad as an action adventure, awesome as the comedy it was.

Although I'd have to say my vote would go to Punisher: Warzone. Great movie if you arn't expecting some deep dramatic art piece.

haha i actually thought that movie was kind of funny

especially with their boston accents saying "appelllsawwwwceeee"
