Who was in charge of Scott Pilgrim's marketing? They should be taken out and shot. I've seen dozens of Escapists simply write-off that awesome movie as a geeky romantic comedy, but they couldn't be more wrong. It's almost depressing.

Luckily, Edgar Wright has a habit of getting all of his profits in on DVD sales. I hope that trend continues... If he were to lose work, I'd be horribly upset. Only good has come from him and he's shown that he has a spark for creation that very few filmmakers these days have.

But it is a geeky romantic comedy. Just with videogame style fights every so often.

It's actually deeper than that. It's an incredibly perceptive commentary on accepting yourself, your past, and the past of others. I figured it would strike very well with the 16-25 crowd, since the message is aimed squarely at them. There are so many little things about that movie that just seem to fly past people in favor of HURRR MICHAEL CERA DATES ANOTHER GIRL TOO PRETTY FOR HIM, PASS. Also, Scott's relationships frequently take a backseat to Scott finding himself. Remember when...
The entire last scene involved him actually caring about someone other than himself. In fact, he put everyone after himself, which was extremely out of character for him up to that point. It was only after he accepted his own mistakes and accepted Ramona's past that he was able to fight for himself, earn the Power of Self-Respect, and face the darkest part of himself. Then, what did he do? He made friends with it. This has to be the most profound thing I've ever seen in a romantic comedy. Instead of stunting his entire personality in favor of something better, he embraced himself and all of his own faults to simply better himself as a whole.
It was also hilarious. If you didn't laugh, you were trying to dislike that movie.

None of them, unless I hear from reliable sources that's it's actually worth my time.

But that doesn't change the fact that it is a romantic comedy. Most romantic comedies focus on the protaganist working out their problem. Maybe Scott Pilgrim is better than most romantic comedies, I didn't think it was all that great personally, that doesn't change the fact that in the end it is a romantic comedy and people who don't like that genre aren't going to like it.

I would actually rather have my genitals hacked off with a rust knife than see:
Vampires Suck

Because it just looks crap. Like I hate Twilight as much as the next man but the fact still remains that now the possibility of an actual clever satire of that series is gone forever and this movie exist literally as a hairbrained watered down fart joke filled insult that will get immense amounts of money from people who ignore all that because it's topical... unaware that by giving this movie so much money they are actually becoming just as mindless as the very Twilight fans they like to mock so frequently.

Eat. Pray. Love. No offense Julia Roberts, but we've all seen the desperate midlife crisis film done much better. Piranha same goes for you. I saw Jaws and Lake Placid, they pretty much summed up the swimming monster death genre and again, its been done better.

Vampires Suck. I'll definitely be missing that one. If you don't like Twilight, why would you subject yourself to an over the top try too hard parody that Hollywood has been spewing out ever since Scary movie 1? Irony is, they all make passes at the "its only funny once" joke, while remaking the same movie in different incarnations tirelessly to mop up after hit films. (Or in this case, hit, teen girl films)

Does anyone remember parodies when they were funny? Mel Brooks comes to mind. Dracula dead and loving it wasn't so bad. (Yeah not all the jokes were lol but, it still had the ability to carry a story in comedy and not leave your audience wanting to gouge out their retina's with forks.)

Anything with Tom Cruise in it.
I won't even see Minority Report, despite my current staring at the entire Philip K. Dick collection.
While this stems partly from my never-see-a-book-to-film adapation (they're all...bad. So cranially intrusionally bad), it's also because I'd rather not give him and his little happy fun get together club anymore more money.

Just a movie that you will not be seeing ever due to how bad the story seems or anything else that might occur to you about the movie. please list the movie and at least one reason, please feel free to rant.

mine would be Pirahna 3D because i dont care for monster flicks.

The Expendables because there are better eighties action flicks that actually came out in the eighties that i could watch.

finally: Cats and Dogs 3D, if you are asking why then that is your answer: Why? why did it have to be made? was the original that big of a hit? why does it need to be in 3D? I dont fucking know.
Same as yours except perhaps for Pirhana, on account of how casual it is. (+ spring break girls, I guess)

Dinner for schmucks

I can't really tell from the trailers but is it supposed to be a comedy?

After reading the plot for Scott Pilgrim I've decided it's not for me. I don't go to the movies that often anyway (last movies I saw in the theatre was District 9 and Inglorious Basterds), since I'm quite picky with my movies. I have yet to find any movie worth watching, even though I have a gift certificate for two to the movies that I've had since christmas. All new movies are shit to me. ):

I'm surprised at the amount of hate for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. I thought it was a nice change from the norm. I will admit that it started losing it's flair as the movie went on.

I do agree Avatar is bleh, I saw it and enjoyed it but after I got thinking about it I really started to dislike it. I can appreciate it for what it is and the excellent use of 3D, but overall I don't think it was anything great and there are much better movies out there. Such as Pirate Radio. :)

Cats & Dogs 2. The first was OK, but very forgettable, and 9 years later it gets a sequel? Who the hell gave that the green light? It's target audience were embryos when the first one came out.

Alpha and Omega: Saw the trailer before Despicable Me and it did everything it possibly could to turn me AWAY from the film.

Yogi Bear: No. Just no.

The Expendables.

Screw these millionaire, past-their-prime "actors" who exploit nostalgia for movies that weren't even that good 20 years ago, which 20s and 30s-age men inexplicably idolize for some bizarre reason.

I get liking Predator back in the day, 'cause it was a good movie (still is). But I can't recall EVER seeing Stallone in a role that didn't make me want to bash him over the head with a lamp for acting so stupid.

Go watch a Robert Rodriguez movie again, remind yourself what good dumb action movies are like. Or watch First Blood, Predator, Alien... The Expendables seems like a movie made simply to exist. Like, no creative spark, no vision, no big idea, no originality, just, "Hey, here are some guys with washed-up careers, but nerds love them! There's a movie in that somewhere! I smell money!" Not all those dumb '80s action movies are as brainless as people remember them, certainly not as brainless as I keep hearing (from people whose opinions I respect) that The Expendables is. I'm gonna save myself some money and track down Scott Pilgrim or the DVD of Kick ***.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, no offense to anyone who finds that kind of thing cool. But to me, it just looks plain awful. I'd rather watch some brainless action movies like Die Hard.
I think someone is just trolling here. The point of movies is to entertain. Honestly I believe SPVTW did a fine job transitioning from the comic book to a movie. It seems like you dont like it because other people like it. Dont say something is "plain awful" until you actually see it. Also I enjoyed Die Hard. Bruce Willis is still a badass.

OT: Piranhas 3D. I have seen Jaws already.
If I don't like the look of a movie, I don't think it's unreasonable to not want to watch it. I'm not a troll, I just don't think that Scott Pilgrim looks like a good movie.

I'm also slightly depressed about all the anti-Scott Pilgrim stuff going on. Its probably one of the few blockbusters coming out this summer with anything remotely resembling a heart or a brain. Its genuinely funny and inventive. The fight scenes are fun, the central characters are all well developed and the soundtrack is awesome.

And yet its made $60,000,000 or so loss because everyone is like "noo its got Michael Cera in it, its got a love interest, I'm going to dissmiss it without seeing it, no matter what critics and personal recommendations say." On the other hand, braindead cinema fodder like Vampires Suck and the Expendables are making tonnes of money. That should be reason enough to go and see it.

What surprises me more is that its this crowd, probably the target audience for this kindof stuff are the ones that are not supporting it.
