The Star Wars Holiday Special. I went in expecting to absolutely hate it, and wound up enjoying the whole thing, and not in a "so bad it's good" way either.

How could I go into a movie knowing if I was going to hate it, if I haven't seen it? Unlike some people I rarely judge a book by its cover.

National Treasure - actually I knew these movies would be awesome in a terrible way, Americana lore and Nic Cage? what could go wrong?

Seriously though the Final Destination movies. I usually pass on the gory boring "horror" flicks but these movies have such ingenious deaths it just glues my eyes to the screen trying to guess who the next person is going to get it.

Avatar The Last Airbender, i expected that movie to absolutely suck, but to my surprise it didn't.
I enjoyed it to but it still wasn't what I hoped it would be.

OT: "Warriors Way" I thought it was going fail hard as an action film But, it gave me the same feel as "Kung Pow: Enter the fist". As bad as it was I have to say I never got bored.

Avatar. I didn't expect much from it, but I ended up catching it on HBO one night and actually really enjoyed it.

Inception. I knew very little about the movie until it came out, and even then only that it was about dreams and that everyone was loving it. Before that, I had only seen a few trailers that made it look like a special effects heavy, disaster-like movie that I thought would be all about the effects and have a lame plot, acting, etc. I immediately dismissed it and didn't care about it.

I was completely and utterly wrong. Inception is now my favorite movie of all time.

The new Karate kid, I never liked the others but I could understand the appeal of them and partially watching them with my family I could always understand the fan base and why people loved the originals. I saw the trailers for the new one and thought it would be really stupid and just completely disgrace the series

I saw it and I loved it, the first one in the entire series of the Karate kid that I enjoyed

Legion, for the record though, I only enjoyed the movie because I looked way too deeply at several different lines of subtext which might or might not have been intended.

Megamind. I was expecting a Despicable Me clone, sooooooooooooooo much more! :)

Both 2012 and GI Joe performed better than I expected them to. For basically all the reasons Movie Bob said. I just watched them to fill in time before karaoke, and thought I'd get exactly what I paid for. I did, but I also got an enjoyable, if not deep, experience. They're not sophisticated in any way, but they're certainly cool.

This. I thought the originals were incredibly silly, but I enjoyed the new one. What can I say? I really like Jackie Chan.

Unstoppable, I thought that it was going to be absolute shit. But it turned out to be a fun movie, mind you not a great movie, but still worth watching.

*I got free tickets for a pre-screening, I don't usually go to movies which I expect to suck.

I've got two examples, but they're both times where people made me watch them on DVD. The first was Superbad at a mate's, I normally don't find that type of stuff funny but god I enjoyed that film. The other one was my dad, he bought a DVD of a film from when he was 18 that he loved, it was called The Warriors. he stuck it on and made me watch it. I was expecting drivel but it was a great, fun film. Seriously check it out!

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.

I was even preparing a scathing line for the review, in which I say that the most interesting part about the movie was that one of the actors is named Mark Webber (as in, Mark Webber, F1 Red Bull Racing, get it?).

Really, it wasn't supposed to appeal to me at all, seeing how I am not a fant of anime or old games.

Turns out the movie was really good.
Agreed. From all the trailers about Scott Pilgrim I saw, it looked to me like a bunch of hipsters and indie douchebags dealing with cheesy relationship problems.

Even though it ended up being pretty much that, I actually really enjoyed the stylized presentation of it all.
I thought it would be Kick-Ass but with real superpowers. Silly me.

These are the two most recent titles, I can think of. Incredible Hulk, my partner had on one day and I was bored decided to watch it with him and actually liked it. Which was a bit of a shock since I'm not a Incredible Hulk fan at all. Superbad just isn't normally my type of humour but gave it a shot after finding nothing else to rent that evening.

-Incredible Hulk (2008 one with Edward Norton)
-Superbad
