MSN's '20 Most Annoying Video Game Characters of All Time'

This article came up on MSN Today and it annoyed me a little bit, because most of his opinions are based on superficial observations.I was wondering what the Escapist thought of his choices:

While he did get some games with annoying characters in them, he chose the wrong characters as annoying. I'm also miffed he put some of my favorite characters on there, such as Spyro, Luigi, Tails, Pikachu (Why put the yellow fluffball on there, WHY???), and Raiden. I really just found this list to be more of a comedy, because of all of the horrible choices.

Eh, for the most part this list is terrible. I'm not usually one to make this sort of snobby comment, but...I really think this person doesn't know much about games. Calling Bioware Bioshock? What even.

And, seriously, no Cedric from King's Quest V? No Vanille? *insert enraged scream here* RAAAAR VANILLE!!1! Just the mention of her name...

Really, those are obvious choices. Especially Cedric. I mean, just listen to his voice:


No. That's not some random youtuber. That's his actual voice from the game. :/

having just read the second half of the aritcle (read the first half earlier this morning but IE never works properly for me so I gave up about half-way through) I noticed that some of the arguments made no sense, like the pikachu one, which is esstenially "I don't like the series so they annoy me" and the last time I check, the blue shell is not a character.

I had to read that 5 times to actually process the mistake he made. Really? MSN could honestly hire anyone of us and we'd be better writers than whoever they got on right now. It's a nice attempt and some entries are dead on, but within the first 10 seconds of reading it I encountered a pretty big error, and that's an error I doubt many of us on here would let slip by.

EDIT: And by process the mistake, I really just mean...how did he let it happen? I mean, they both start with Bio, but they're still significantly different sounding, and meaning, names.

Yeahhhhh no. That list is completely wrong in my list of annoying characters. I mean Jacob wasn't even annoying at all. The Council was more annoying than him.

I would have loved to see him go "Colonel Mustard from Clue, the number one reason he is so annoying...", man listing some plastic piece from a board game could incite some much flame, just think of the possibilities. Sometimes I think they make these lists because they know people are going to hate them, thus more people visit them, and so the ads on that page pay a ton of money to them. Just a thought. Maybe if we ignore it, it'll go away, like that friend that no one really likes but he can't take the hint.

Er...Farad from Prince of Persia was one of the best companions ever. I never listen to the MSN pages though, they're usually chock full of shit. The guy obviously hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, provided that you don't then pretend to know everything about everything.

The Nico Bellic thing...the player NEVER has to kill innocents. If Nico jumps out of a car to "slaughter innocents", then that's because YOU made him do it. Jesus. You can't bemoan a character doing something that they can only do if you make them do it! Yes, the option's there, but it's YOUR morals that are at play, not his. I'm now 100% sure this guy hasn't played a game in his life, but has based his article on "research" on the YouTube comments sections. That's how ridiculous, shallow and uneducated his choices are.

Nothing to get angry about (although it's tempting), the guy's obviously clueless. Let's mock him instead.
