Multiple Consoles, do we need them?

So... yeah, all important exclusives that Sony used to have are all going multiplatform (Square now working with 360's as well makes me cry), and many former Xbox exclusives are going the sony way as well.
Most exclusives are meh, or don't actually matter all that much, and if you are one of those people who wants to play both Fable and Disgaea 3, you have to pay for 2 consoles, that are almost the exact same shit.
Because of the extreme competitions of the 3 console companies, we're getting the worst pieces for each individual console, so Xbox getting constant RRODs, Wii's crappy graphics, and PS3's non-programmer friendly processor.

What do you guys think? Should Next Gen Consoles be only a huge bastard child made by all three companies or do you actually think we (as gamers) are gaining anything from their constant competition for our attention?

Yes?

It keeps people on competition and releasing better consoles/games. Without competition the market would get stale as the sole console manufacter doesn't need to push any envelopes.

Basically if you the only guy running the Marathon are you actually going to tire yourself in winning it?

You already going to win it.

No we need competition. Competition forces companies to come up with new tech to outdo their rivals. Otherwise we end up like Microsoft OS.

Edit: oliveira8 beat me to it.

I would say competition can bring out the best and the worst, and non multiplatformers being best.

I dunno. I mean, we don't have DVD players that can only play DVD's by a certain company.

I guess I was wrong about this becoming an argument.

Thank you people for showing me there are mature people on the internet!

I do think only one would be nice (no console wars and no exclusives) although I know this would be bad because someone would corner the market and could charge whatever they wanted so as it says above we need competition in the industry.

You guys still play consoles? I thought we'd ALL advanced to advanced psionic scenarios. The newest release from Microsoft. Although I can tell Sony's product is going to be good, it's just omnipresence. And the latest Nintendo product seems to be pretty good, you just open the box and you lose like half of your body-weight and feel an urge to play tennis.

(This talk from Futuro Man shows what competition can do for consoles, mark my words, these will be the latest consoles in a good ten years)

I don't agree, see usually, it's not Sony or Microsoft making the games, it's the game-making companies, Valve, EA, etc, there would still of course be competitions for good games, but you wouldn't have to buy two consoles that are the exact same shit aka. ps & xbox

It's called competition...

It's the back bone of a good industry and economy...
How is it a competition between the 360 and the PS3, most of the specs of both things are the exact same shit... games (multiplatform or not) look almost exactly the same, and play the same, no improvements are made for either console, I feel lack of a good argument by saying that the "monopoly" of only one console would be bad.
Edit: omg triple post, sorry...

Please don't start something like this we don't need another console argument.
How is this a console argument? :S Read the fucking post?
Did you read my second post? Oh I guess not maybe you should pay more attention. Anything about consoles can turn into an argument. Have you ever been on any other forum EVER? Anyone brings up consoles it seems to just become a huge flame war.
