No. If every one did then we would all listen to the beetles and other junk. I prefer Older rap. Yet people thought Bone thugs sucked when they came out and time has made them legends. Criticism just doesn't hold well against time.

Never even listen to the reviewers. Oh, I know they're there, but I don't care.

Game reviews are more important to me, because I'm spending 60 bucks on something a company has gone out of their way to NOT tell me anything about.

Music gets airplay, promo videos, TV spots, even presentation within other media like video games. I'm spending ten bucks and can formulate my own opinion.

Rarely. If it's a band I know and like I'll check it out anyway and make up my own mind. If it's something I'm not familiar with I'm less likely to check it out, so a good review might sway me to give it a listen. If it's a band I don't like I'll probably only check it out if I hear it somewhere and think it's worth a listen.

generally if somthing gets terrible reveiws then its a good reason to stay away, with games and movies you can generally tell if its better to just hold onto your money

music however.....well to be honest when I was young I didnt even know music reveiwing was a "thing"

now obviously not all music is eaqual, there are tons of things to take inter consideration...there also the fact that peopel buy less albums generally and usualy is the album as a whole that gets reveiwed

the reason Im singleing out music in particuar is because its much much much MUCH more subjective than other entertainment forms (and spening anytime on the internet could tell you) at least with a movie/game you can generally find some kind of consensus....with music it isnt the case..one persons gold in anothers trash

so essentailly what Im saying is....do you take reveiws into account when it comes to music? are critical reveiws worth anything acording to you?
No. In fact, I'm not even sure I've ever read a musical review in my 30 years of life. I have ONE go-to thing when it comes to music opinions. A few of my friends. I know they have great taste in music. If they say its awesome, I'll check it out.

Other than that, I think the "similar artists"-function in spotify is simply brilliant. Especially since the music is instantly available. Its a great way to discover new bands.

Oh hell no! I have one of the most eclectic tastes in music you've ever seen. One minute I'll be bobbing my head to Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People, and the next I'll be headbanging to Under and Over It by Five Finger Death Punch (no, I did not make up that band's name), only to begin arrogantly strutting to Daylight by Matt and Kim.

What's pleasing to my ear is gonna be a helluva lot different than some critic's.

Not really when it comes to music no. Unless it's coming from someone I know I'm generally skeptical of any lauding or condemnation of an artist. I much prefer to sample something for myself and judge it first hand, which thankfully in this modern age of streaming is easier than ever. :D That being said, if something gets damn near universal praise, then I'm certainly inclined to give it a try (though many a time I can find this lavishing praise is unwarranted).

Mmmmmm... no.

For contemporary music, I won't even give reviews the time of day... since I can just form my own opinion by listening to youtube vids before purchase.

However, for 'classical' music (i.e. pre-C20 music - for the most part at least) I will regard some reviewers' critiques of interpretations... but fuck them if they decide to go all 'poetic'. I couldn't give a damn about that... so again, I ignore most of them, too.

People actually review music? Holy fuck, seriously? People actually spend their time reviewing albums and shit?

Films and TV shows and books I can understand since they actually have narratives and shit you could really look into, but music? It's just nice-sounding noise, let's face it.

no review, no matter what it's for, will my opinion of it. there have been plenty of films and games that have gotten bad reviews that i've really enjoyed so if i saw a music review, i'd give it a go myself before judging it

The only music I listen to is either A: Prog Rock from the 70's; B: Rock and Roll from the 60's to the 80's; C: The occasional 30's and 40's songs that get stuck in my head from playing "Fallout 3"; and D: Stuff I accidentally find on YouTube browsing videos.

I don't read music reviews and when I do, they usually don't matter because I don't listen to most newer songs. Maybe the occasional one here or there like Coldplay or something like that, but nothing can beat Pink Floyd, Genesis, YES, Queen and old groups like those.

Rock on!

Music reviews? I don't think a particular opinion would ever affect the songs I choose to purchase, a lot of which are based on mood more than anything.

The only things I trust reviews in are movies and video games. Music? Absolutely NOT! If I like it, I like it. That's why I have 2 Limp Bizkit albums sitting on my shelf in my room, because I like them.

Not at all.

Reviews will enlighten me one what the music I'm listening to actually means...it does absolutely nothing to influence my taste in music. Music cannot be described in my opinion, it must be experienced.

My opinions of any art are formed mostly after first hand experience. After seeing the Mona Lisa first hand, I do have to say it is a beautiful work of art. I don't usually go to reviews to see if something is significantly awesome enough for me to try :)

[sub]Friends tend to successfully dissuade me at times though.[/sub]

I don't listen to a damn thing that music critics say...Half the albums I own are given a three star (or equivalent) or lower. It really doesn't bother me (Nor should it bother anyone else. Music has a much higher level of subjectivity than other mediums when evaluating the "Quality".

I do not even pay attention to conventional music reviews. I listen to my friend's "reviews" and by reviews I mean them telling me about music they like and me going on youtube and checking it out for myself.

If you're going to tell me that you can't objectively see the lack of merit in something like Phil Collins or Brokencyde then I suggest you may have something lodged in your skull.
Do expand on why their bad. Back it up lol.

Nope, I don't give a shit about music reviews. A lot of my music is usually nothing above 3 stars on an average review site but I don't care because I like my music!

Hell, even the vocalist for Winds of Plague said he's never read a review on any of their albums and he thinks people shouldn't listen to reviews and that they should actually check it out for themselves.
