I'm a fan of the local music scene. A shame many of them aren't as popular or well known as they should be.
Shihad, (already mentioned.) - Rock

Fat Freddy's Drop - Roots
(In the same ilk are groups like Rhombus.)

Autozamm - Rock

The Datsuns - Rock

Dimmer - Alt

Antiform - D+B

Salmonella Dub - Dub/D+B
-
Honourable mentions: Weta, Cairo Knife Fight, The Mint Chicks, OpShop, Phoenix Foundation, The Feelers, Fly My Pretties, Flight of the Conchords, Steriogram and so many more.

Originally from South Africa and music is not what south africa is known for, but here's a song my dad found, it's quite good:

Whoah, look! No Kraftwerk, and certainly no Rammstein. Instead, I'll give you...

As for the country I'm living in, it probably has to be

A few lads from Queensland do a new spin on an oldie.

This song is just about every stereotype about Australia rolled into one.

A song dedicated to every young man in Australia who went to Vietnam.

All 100%, true blue Aussies.

Pretty much the only good Dutch band that ever existed. Together with this one:

Here's some more awesome music from Poland if you do not like death metal
Quite an improvement :p
It's still not *quite* what I like, but I can understand why other people *would* like it.
With death metal, I guess I just don't understand what its possible attraction is to its fans.

Sorry for being harsh in relation to your musical tastes, but I just don't "get" them haha.

In my opinion this is the best band from Northern Ireland in a long time! I give you General Fiasco!

I know someone who would probably bang his head of the wall for you saying that. His favourite band from NI is And So I Watch You From Afar.

OT: I am just going to stick up both sides as much as I can remember.
U2, Thin Lizzy, Van Morrison, And So I Watch You From Afar, Chors, Cranberrys, Clannad, Sinéad O'Connor, The Pogues, Kila, Westlife, Boyzone, Snow Patrol, Coronas, The Script, Damien Rice, Aslan, My Bloody Valentine, Ash, The Dubliners, Christie Moore.

I'm sure you've probably heard of at least one of those.

A few of the local bands I like

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiCcX7xkgcg Triggerfinger - Love lost in love

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bvDFDcc8fQ The subs - Kiss my trance (hard to pick just one of their tracks, so I went for the first hit)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwgzUfj2okU Villa - Beats of Love (cover of a local classic)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF3bu9fmheA Soulwax - NY excuse

But probably one of the best known exports we ever had was....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1K7fL5s_1ac Technotronic - Pump up the jam
