Music Suggestions With A Slight Difference...

*Before I start, I have searched and haven't found anything quite like this. Apologies if that's not the case*

I always see Twitter feeds, Facebook posts or forum topics about suggesting new music. That's fine, but what I often notice is that most people (myself included) just use this as a chance to harp on about their own music taste, nod sagely at others who have mentioned ones they already know and generally don't take anything new from it themselves.

So, what I suggest is we try this:

- Everyone shares a band/song that they really like, if you want you can write a bit about it too. Doesn't have to be unknown or anything, but if it is a well known band then try a lesser known song or a different version of one of their hits.

- For everything you recommend you must check out at least one thing that someone else has suggested.

- Say what you listened to and write a few words about it, let's say one line minimum?

- Like what you hear? Go like them on Facebook, subscribe on Youtube or leave them a comment, just something to pledge a little support.

Do the hard work for other people by providing links to Youtube clips, Soundcloud pages or even Myspace. Just make sure that it's reasonably legal.

Here are a few to get us started:

Cass Lowe
I know one or two members of his band, but I'm in no way biased. I heard this the other day and it blew me away. Got a euphoric upbeat sort of feel.

The Midday Committee
I had this sent to me this morning by a friend of a friend. They're relatively new

Subsource
A metal/dubstep crossover band, one of the best live acts I've seen in the last few years.

Two Gallants
A creaky acoustic duo with some seriously tight song-writing.

As I've recommended 4, I'll make sure to listen to at least 4 that other people put up.

You want awesome music with a twist? Look no further than MiracleOfSound on this very site! Specifically the songs Wasteland Soul, Mining All Day Long and Trip To Vegas!

I'll check them out, but you might want to read the original post.

Alright, this sounds like fun, I'll give it a go.
I listened to Subsource, as dubstep's a genre I haven't really branched out to much. I quite liked it, had me tapping my foot a few times, also double basses are cool.

As for my band, I'd like to recommend the Cat Empire. They're a jazz/ska band from my hometown of Melbourne and just cannot get enough of them. Here's one of my favourite songs by them, also it has a music video that makes me laugh:

Listened to Wasteland Soul, got a mild QOTSA feel to it. Is this about Fallout 3? Anyway, gone and 'liked' it. Thanks for the recommendation :)

Ok, Subsource was... well, competant enough. I found the lead singer's voice a little grating.

Kudos for mentioning Cat Empire! I love them!

I'm going to link another, much more obscure, video. This is... well, it was inspired by ponies, but is now made out of electronic cool.

Checked out OP's link to Cass Lowe. Really isn't my type of music, but it was very relaxing and overall a great song.

Now for my contribution; Overkill.
In my opinion the best thrash metal band out there, and one of the very first to create the sub-genre. Played for over thirty years and they still deliver songs that there is no max sound level to.

This is a song from their latest album.

A thrash ballad oldie. Worth listening through!

Another oldie and one of my favorites. This one isn't a ballad, so if you prefer fast and awesome stuff, check this one out.

Definitely quirky, love the cheek to it. I'll be honest, I found the Australian twang does took a little getting used to. I love the little breakdown at about 3 mins, slightly New Orleansy. Very fun band, gone and liked them.

Glad you liked the idea. I actually had it in a dream last night.

Reminds me of pornographically hard Japanese games. Having got to the end I actually like this far more than I thought I would at the beginning. Good progression with the guitar, builds it up nicely. Mildly hypnotic.

Very nice, I believe we have head bobbing with that number.

Another song time! This one's has some quirky lyrics, but I really like them and I think the song's great.

Try Panic at the Disco! And I'm about to go check out that dubstep/metal band...
Pretty catchy. I'm not a huge Panic fan, some of their older stuff annoys me a bit. But this is cool.

Really like that new one. Listening to their older stuff it's clear that they've kept their original vibe but still kept up with the times. Always difficult for older bands to do.

Fantastic band called The Correspondents which really haven't gotten famous but very few people will dislike their stuff. I love it.

It has been tried! I thought it was very bland. Just typical modern rock music. That is not meant as a slight on the musical tastes of anyone who enjoys it.

My contributions:
Seasick Steve - Walking Man! This is a down-to-earth Blues song about going the extra mile for someone.

Carcass - Heartwork! This is a melodic death metal song about the creation of transgressive art. Note the rather elegant title.

This was quite beautiful in places, interesting instrumentation too.

I'm glad you like it, but I think you quoted the wrong person. And I'm liking the Correspondents, very nice.

Here's an Australian/Kiwi band called Crowded House, been listening to a lot of them lately.

I've only ever heard the big hit from them, so I'll give this a go.
