No reason to feel guilty about it. I teach music for a living, I'm well-versed in the history and theory of music, and I listen to crap 80's rock all the time.axlryder said:Welcome ladies and gents. Woah, I think you might be over-thinking this a little. I mean, nice response, and true, but this thread is pretty much meant to be a frivolous celebration of all that "junk-food". Guilty pleasure was just a phrase I threw in there to try and convey exactly what I'm referring to. I think anyone on here who listens to "baby" by JB would probably consider it a guilty pleasure.Dastardly said:No reason to feel guilty about it. Music was created for communication and enjoyment. It's meant to be shared. That's where folk music comes in -- which is just music meant to be made by 'folks.' The stuff on the radio? A lot of it is our modern folk music.
And then there's the art music. The stuff written for professionals, to be performed by masters of the craft. The stuff written with real artistic weight behind every note, just dripping with intent. And that stuff's great, too.
I like Twinkies. I would never try to argue that they're "healthy" or "substantial," and I certainly wouldn't try to live on them entirely, but sometimes, dammit, I just want a Twinkie. And the existence of Twinkies doesn't preclude the continue existence of steak or salad. It's junk food, and that's okay.
Our so-called "guilty pleasure" are just our musical junk food. Nothing wrong with that. The only thing for people to feel "guilty" about is living as though it's the only thing that exists.
Nothing guilty about enjoying A Thousand Suns, if that's what you mean by "new" Linkin Park.Sean Hollyman said:I like Nickleback and New Linkin Park :s
I only discovered them after hearing 'What I've Done' on Transformers, so I prefer everything after and including thatOhJohnNo said:Nothing guilty about enjoying A Thousand Suns, if that's what you mean by "new" Linkin Park.Sean Hollyman said:I like Nickleback and New Linkin Park :s
