Whenever my friends look at my iPod, their faces gain an expression somewhere between mild confusion and "WTF?!" All the game music I have aside, here's a few songs and artists nobody has recognized yet:

~Turning Away (Mary Black)
~Chaiyya Chaiyya (A.R. Rahman)
~Mosane (E.S. Posthumus)
~Ancora (Ludovico Einaudi)
~Fairy Ring (David Arkenstone)
~Cape Porcupine (Achillea)
~Carnival (Twelve Girls Band)
~B.B. Evolution (AKHT)

What music do you have that you feel nobody else does?

Most of mine, people seem to know.
However, I have a fair amount of Imogen Heap's songs on my mp3 player, and there are very few who even know who she is. :S

Utopium by Battle Circus
Take Her Back by Pigeon Detectives
Battles by Atlas
My Patch by Jim Noir
Destination Unkown by Alex Gaudino

Obviously other people also listen to these but in my social circle of hell they're considered practically indie.

For a LONG time I was the only one of my friends who knew about MGMT, Owl City, +44, and Sick Puppies.

Hey I have an Imogen Heap song :) Granted it came with a Narnia music CD, but she sounds very good.

May I ask... What song was that?
I'm glad at least someone else knows her. :p

I listen to a lot of music from Finland.
Needless to say, most North Americans I live around don't know half of what I listen to.
Though, some of my metalhead friends do.
What, you want an actual band?
Hmm...
Korpiklaani, for one (which is weird, because all of their cds can be bought in music stores here)
Twilightning
Turisas

For not Finnish stuff, I'd have to say Firewind (Greek), The Creepshow (Canadian -- psychobilly)... and others that I can't think of now.

Any of Serj Tankian's solo work. Very few of my friends have heard of system and even fewer know about Serj...

Ok. So, turns out people do know her.
But my point is still valid, as practically no one at the school I go to knows of her :p

Nonetheless, my day has been made, knowing there are people here who have heard, and even enjoy, her songs.
:p

I sure know Battles - but actually, the song is Atlas, and the band is Battles.
GREAT song.

Ensiferum, Wintersun, Machinae Supremacy, Deathstars, BFMV.
All my friends know those bands, but no one else seems to where I live...

I've heard of every band mentioned in this thread and liked them before you did. You can read about it in my zine (if you're cool enough to know where to find it).
