I've recently found my old Doom collection and I've been playing thru it again and found that, although the in-game music is fine sometimes you want something with a little more "punch" to get thru that tough level. i like using music that doesn't fit in; like really happy, peaceful music. when i play left for dead i usually listen to the beatles or something it's funny to be listening to people harmonising about love while blowing a zombie's head off. the same would probably work for doom

How about Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction? Haven't tried listening to stuff with Doom since I only finally managed to get my hands on it with that whole Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil package, which I hardly played apart from the classics, Doom 1 and 2. But it feels like it should work.

Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata should provide a funky contrast, if that's your cup of tea.
