I do enjoy songs that have emotional meaning, it allows me to connect more and enjoy the music.

It's why I hate Weezer after their second album (Pinkerton). Because it was critically and commercially unsuccesful at the time Rivers Cuomo swore to never make an album that personal again and just wrote to please the fans and as a result everything post-Pinkerton has been radio friendly feel good rock that feels incredibly sterile compared to Weezer's old work.

And to say over and over again that rap has no message and is only about bad fashion and bad attitudes is about one of the most uneducated statements I've ever heard. You're all idiots any one who agreed with that. You have no idea what you are talking about. Educate yourselves before entering discussions or someone is going to come along and make you look like the 18yr old fucking moron you are.

Here's a list for you idiots to look up. Then you can suck mine.

1. Sage Francis
2. Aesop Rock
3. Public Enemy
4. Mc Front-a-lot
5. Mc Chris
6. Saul Williams
7. Cubby Bear
8. KRS-One
9. Mos Def
10. Dead Prez

And thats just the first 10 that quickly popped in my head. There are probably 20 more on my ipod and 500 I haven't heard yet. So shut the fuck up, you don't know anything about what you are talking about.

And for your information punk music is saturated by bands with little message. Yes there are a lot with powerful messages but there are bad examples and good in every genre. So don't just bash a style of music out of silly fanboy ignorance please. You look dumb.
Isn't this a forum based upon personal opinion? So calling everyone uneducated fucking morons wont make you a lot of friends. But you did make some valid points. For that I will quote you "So don't just bash a style of music out of silly fanboy ignorance please. You look dumb."

Agreed it won't make me friends.. but it just irks me when I see people bashing an entire sub-culture based upon their uneducated stereotypes. I wanted to make my point strongly.. honestly the people offended by my point are people I would not want to be friends with.

Songs with meanings? Really? You're saying some songs have meanings?! The majority of all songs have meanings, you're just not looking hard enough.

He's right, just add Immortal Tech to that list aswel.

Problem is see, people hear Kids by Plan B for example...

"Pick up an AK and spray
That's the mentality of kids today
Fuck a girl and get her pregnant underage
That's the mentality of kids today
Even when I got doe I wont pay my way
That's the mentality of kids today
Stabbing you in the leg down an alley way
That's the mentality of kids today"

Listening to that song, most of the hip-hop haters here would get from that verse that Plan B is promoting shootings, underage bareback banging and knife crime. And they'd be right, in the same way that Offsping are promoting hating life in Cool To Hate. If hip-hop is so stupid, and you people are so smart, why can't you understand it?

Yeah, I've not really met a lot of people who make such drastic changes. My group of friends are relatively stable.
Relatively.
I guess this is where I say "cheer up boyo" or something along the lines.
The best thing about psychology is that it's all in your head. Seriously.

"Would you kindly," understand that the point of living is to fuck everything you can see, and live life by your own terms.

It was worth a try.

Clever, but I am living life by my own terms by doing the exact opposite of what you suggest - I like to go against the grain, as it were.

No, but I do love a good flirt.
It's a fun little exercise for your mind, especially when you're not focused on the endgame.

Anyway as much as I love talking about myself (seriously, I am a narcissist,) this thread is so massively derailed I can't even remember what it was about despite looking at the title as I type this.

EDIT: Also I am befriending you whether you like it or not.
I'm still making an attempt to keep on topic within anyone else still speaking.

Also, you are not the only one to add me against my will. Kind of scary how you can be added by anyone and not have any choice about it.

I usually try and take music for what it is - the only time I've ever developed "meaning" from a song is when I was down in the dumps or something, and it came on.

This is why I like mostly instrumental work, because there's no silly lyrics for you to pick apart and determine the meaning of - it's just sound for you to enjoy, and whatever emotion that you carry from that is yours and yours alone. Half the time, I don't even pay attention to what the lyrics are saying, but could still sing along with a lot of the songs I own.

I just like the voice as an instrument set against guitars and whatnot... I don't have the time enough to tear songs apart for their meaning, but if I ever did start, I'd begin and end with "I Am The Walrus".

Kukukachoo.

I like songs with original meanings. Political commentary is so mainstream, that's not to say it's a bad thing but it's just lost appeal. I prefer songs I can relate to and I also like songs that make no sense, provided the instrumental part is good.

What is there to understand? Do I need to draw a picture that will get me banned? Heh, I'm pretty sure most kids change their views on life, happiness, and love multiple times during high school. Personally, I remember being all rebellious and whatnot during my freshman year with the whole long hair and unshaved thing. It's weird when you look back on how you used to act.
I just don't understand why so many people seem to enjoy sex, I guess.

Perhaps you're just slow to come around to that stage, as I was up until quite recently.
Not a month ago, I was the kind of guy at a party that'd have girls hitting on me and I'd be passive at my most polite, and verbally degrade them when I was at my worst.
When someone approached me with a proposition of intercourse, I'd usually think to myself "oohh, you're one of those people. This friendship ain't gonna last."

But now, several months into eighteen, I'm completely receptive to it. I would think most kids go through this at around thirteen, but not myself.
The only real difference I can distinguish between then and now is the amount of physical activity I am currently engaged in.

So, hey, maybe it's as simple as physically inactive people having an underdeveloped sex drive. Might be my own body trying to perpetuate natural selection by saying "alright, you fat sack of shit, if this is how you're going to treat yourself, reproducing is out of the goddamn question."

I can't say exercise'd do anything for you, as I don't know anything about your lifestyle (I was going to say "you could be an Olympic athlete for all I know", but then I realized they wouldn't have the time to make so many posts; we can safely rule it out).

So, hey, maybe give it a try. See if it makes any difference, and if it does, decide for yourself whether or not you like the change. I'd recommend getting a physically-intensive job as opposed to exercising in your free time, as the latter is extremely easy to give up on.

If you want music with meaning, try some Kamelot. Most of their songs tend to tell stories, most about myths and legends, such as King Arthur and Uther Pendragon. Hell 2 of their albums are basically the entire story of Faust, which is really cool.

You should check em out.

I'm not physically unfit - pretty average. Some muscle, average height, etc.

I'm like you were, and yeah, I may change, but I really don't want to.
Everyone else is so worried/obsessed with sex, even at this age. It's honestly a little pathetic.
They're just junkies looking for a fix at worst, or animals in heat at best.

Also there are no jobs in Florida that don't involve lynching "them there black folk" or serving burgers at McDonald's.
The Army always needs young males with controlled libidos in the service.

Songs with meaning? Old Metallica (Nothing Else Matters, the first 6 lines (reportedly) being Hetfield's grandfather's dying words), some Offspring songs (Gone Away), and Pantera (listen to Cemetary Gates, much quiter (for the most part) than other Pantera stuff) to name a few.

Eric Johnsons music is very open to interpratation, and all it is is just constant guitar, very few songs have lyrics, and even in those its all about the guitar. Its just how the music makes you feel.
