smoke on the water. I think that's the first song every guitarist learns first. Either that or seven nation army. And i learnt them both on the 6th string, which is totally wrong.
This is off topic, but the majority of people play Smoke on the Water incorrectly. instead of
e|--------------
b|--------------
g|--------------
d|--------------
a|--------------
e|0-3-5--0-3-6-5
it should be
e|--------------
b|--------------
g|0-3-5--0-3-6-5
d|0-3-5--0-3-6-5
a|--------------
e|--------------.
dude, i was thinking the exact same thing. i dont think ive seen anyone play that right.
Really? I've never seen anyone play it wrong.

You beat me to it:)
This for me, although I got stuck learning the solo. My first solo was the one to Weezer - Say It Ain't So

Easy, but I love it.

I want to live where you live. The majority of guitarists (I use that term loosely) who know the song picked it up off Guitar Hero.

any song by Nirvana on guitar.
Not really, alot of it is just power chords but to actually make the songs sound like Kurt does is hard. In terms of technical ability Kurt was far from Buckethead, but the way he used feedback and disortion was amazing.

Smoke on the Water was the first song I've ever played so it's the easiest I knew at the time.

There's no way I could bust out that solo in my first month or two of playing... I could barely even switch chords fast enough to play them in time with a song (not power chords, I mean like G C D... etc :S) let alone solo...

Rock Superstar by Cypress Hill. It's just basically barre chords on the bottom three strings, open or the 1st fret, quite satisfying though to sit thrashing your guitar and can say it's a song. Same deal with Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson.

May I recommend Sweet Dreams by Manson as a nice easy song, but sounds incredible with the right tone, and a pretty fun solo.

He's mistaking 'song' for 'riff'.

Beat me to it. Definitely.

Although, when I first started taking lessons, there was this song at the beginning of the book that consisted of cdcdcdcdcdcdc. Not sure that really counts, tho.

American Idiot on guitar. Seriously, there isn't an easier power chord sequence to play, and I haven't played properly in years XD
Well, most things from the American Idiot album, now I think about it.
