Please, don't throw the word "Muslims" around like that. The biggest prolem with this is the generalization of "extremists = all followers of one religion". Based on that you could call every single Christ on the world a potential terrorist (Thanks a lot, Indonesia...), or probably a child molester or what not. Every religion has some idiots who try to use religion as a cover for all the bullshit they commit. Don't make yourself one of them by trying to put this label on a religion. I agree that any display of such idiocy (like the burning of whatever, the BS about going to hell and what else) is disgusting and disrespecting. But you simply can't convince most of those people that they are wrong, so don't even try. If you want to keep their power low, just give a better example to anyone. Show everyone how you can live happy and tolerant. You'll do more for world peace if you get one person to think if such a extremist belief is really the right idea, then with all the hate you could muster against extremists.
