Hi People!

One of these posts got me thinking...what older movies out there are MUST SEE'S! but maybe not as well known? I just recently saw Johnny Dangerously (1984, with Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Joe Piscopo and god knows how many other talents) and I laughed my ass off! Quality flick and I only found out about it because of some people at work. So, what other movies are out there that could be a bit off the beaten path that are just awesome? They can be any type. My next movie I'm going to rent is Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982, Steve Martin and others). I'm sure there are a TON more, so fill this space up? I need some movies!

Peace!

Let's see, you've got David Lynch's Dune with it's over the top visual design and wonderful cast. Then you've got Brazil with it's over the top visual design, wonderful cast, and bizzare dream sequences (during one the protagonist fights a giant robot samurai, clearly a sign of being awesome).

Grosse Point Blank, Threesome, Dark City, Event Horizon, Eight Heads in a Duffle Bag, They Live, Pi (mathematical symbol), Trainspotting and Gattaca (I am always surprised that not a lot of people know about this flick) to name a few.

You know, for as well known as Dune is, I've met a ton of people that have never seen it. They know about it, but just haven't seen it! How odd is that? I've also heard it's better to read the books first. That true?

Voted Johnny Mnemonic. Keanu as Neo 1.0, Henry Rollins, Dolf Lundgren and Ice-T. It's a non-stop, cyberunk thrill ride from start to finish!

OK, my must-see-suggestions are:
TRON - should be obvious.
The Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers - The movie (I'm talking about the one with Donald Sutherland, Leonard Nimoy and Jeff Goldblum in perfectly fitting roles) builds up an excellent atmosphere, especially towards the end, and does everything right a horror movie should be supposed to do but hardly ever does right (build up tension, surprise the viewer, convey emotions)
The Time Machine - Not the pretty recent remake that totally messed up the base concept of the book, but Goerge Pal's version. Despite the slightly dated effects the movie manages to make everything look plausible. And the Time Machine looks almost as described in the book, except for the comfortable seating. Huge Bonus.
The Life Of Brian - Not only does this film show up the horrible flaws, weaknesses and dangers of organised religion, it also sums up everything anyone would need to know about each and every "rebel organisation" (mainly small socialistic parties and the usual punk gatherings in my hometown) I ever got in contact with in no more than five minutes.

there are the obvious classics like pulp fiction and such. also, lock stock and two smoking barrells was pre 2000 i think. that movie is incredible.

Yeah, Dune kinda sucked.

FINALLY! Now I know I'm not the only sane person left.
Ug, the original Dune movie was awful. And yet the RTS game was absolutely awesome.... Bad movie=great game?? The remake movies/mini-series thing was much better.

If you like sports movies check out "Eight Men Out". One of my all time favorites.

Why pre-2000? the nineties weren't exactly interesting.

Most of my favorites came out early 00's, such as "oldboy" (2003) "city of god" (2002) and "lost in translation" (2003).

Notables from before then, well thats rather silly. There are far too many. I believe "the thomas crown affair" (1999) was mentioned, that's an excellent heist flick. The various diehard's, etc.

See bladerunner. and enjoy it.

Don't see Top Gun. If you have, try to unsee it.
