So...they are banning players...for using a glitch...When it's the devs fault that the glitch even exists...

Yeah that makes plenty of sense.
But if people exploit them to their advantage they deserve to be punished as well for ruining the game for others by using glitches of that sort.

Not really, the glitch wasn't part of the intended programming, and the glitch offers a huge advantage to those who know how to exploit it.

When a gamer figures out a workaround to what the game devs had in mind, then that is clever and the game designers themselves think it cool, a bug that wasn't spotted used as an advantage?, not cool.

The information has been out there that bans will be handed out for exploiting this since it became a known glitch. If you don't care enough to read that information while you basically grief everyone in your games, well sucks to be you. I wish they were handing out permanent bans, this glitch is just ridiculous sometimes.
Two all three of you, you seem to forget that if they didn't test it out first AND LOOK for glitches before release, then they didn't do their job.

And now that it's known, you FIX THE BUG, not ban people for being tempted by it.

Or is that just so impractical for gamers to conceive, that the devs fix the game that they released.

While it is certainly the developer's fault for having the glitch in the first place, the presence of the problem does not mean someone should exploit it. There are plenty of arguments against this point but I'm certain none will be terrible compelling.

I think it's hilarious that people believe a program as complex as a networked computer game can be released without bugs.

You missread that read it again

Pass tense, that implies that after they release it they find bugs and fix them.

so I say again, is it just so impractical for gamers to conceive that devs fix the game that they have released. I.E. PATCHES, you don't ban them for using the bugs "For the lols" you fix it and move on to the next one, I'm not expecting perfect on release, that's just idiotic, but I expect it to be fixed, not banning people for using it.

I dunno, Beta testing can solve a lot of these issues.

Has anyone else noticed people glithcing to the highest points in the maps?

You are missing the point, and being unreasonable. Most games released have glitches. It is insane to think that there won't be any. It doesn't do any good to point the finger and play the blame game. They are fixing the issue, and doing all they can, and in the meantime banning people who knowingly use an exploit to ruin the game for others. It does no good to complain about what should have been done, it's in the past. Why are you sticking up for people who are trying to ruin other peoples fun?

Good, while IW is working on a patch keep those glitchers offline. This isn't a get on top of some roof glitch this is a major game changing/breaking one, there is a massive difference between glitches on map movment, and glitches that revolve around something that breaks core gameplay in such a manner. Ban away!

Not everyone updates. But then again I suppose it being on the 360 means they can force it.

I don't know my boxes are not hooked up to the internet.
Well they technically could by adding version limitations. Like saying someone with version 1.036 can't play with someone with version 1.072

Though I still find it bad that console games have taken to the old PC infamy of fixing everything in patches rather than making it tight as possible before going out the door. But that's really more a fault of the publisher than the dev.

I say those damn kids get banned for a year, for the pain & anguish they have brought upon me.

A lot of that is actually built into the map with hidden "jump" locations(ie press A when next to a certain spot and you climb it) and ledges that create a sort of ladder, IW has some areas blocked by invisible wall though.

Yeah on LIVE it will auto update or disconnect you if you chose not to.

See my previous post...

Also, banning PAID FOR accounts is unreasonable, and the fix wouldn't take longer then a week to do, if they just DO IT.

I concur, definitely serves them right. They may try and hide by saying their just exploiting a glitch but it still just looks like cheating to me. Enjoy your X-Box Live Vacation, javelin martyrs! :D

Hmm maybe they're legit? I don't think so though.

The ones I'm thinking of are:

Afghan:
Atop a couple of pipes, over the large entrance to the cave by the plane.

High Rise:
People on top of buildings. I don't mean the high window and places you can get from climbing along the crane cargo, I mean right up top of the roof of the spawn buildings.

I saw your previous post. Doesn't change a thing.

You are not the boss, the world doesn't revolve around how quickly you (who has no working knowledge of what exactly is going on at IW and how hard they are working to correct the problem) WANT the problem solved. They said they are fixing it, then they are fixing it. Are you a professional coder? Do you even work in the industry? How do you know how long it takes to coordinate a team of people to work backwards and solve a glitch like this?

If I pay for a gun, and use it in a robbery, well then, I get punished for being an asshat. Just because you pay for something gives you no right to do with it as you wish if you are breaking the rules.

At the root of this you have to remember that hidden in the EULA you agree to on playing the game is a clause that says you won't exploit glitches in the game - basically the studio going 'there's probably going to be something exploitable in here somewhere, but please just tell us about it, k?' - it's just that this seems to be the first time that it's been enforced. TBH there have been plenty of examples in the past, eg various vs glitches in L4D and an unquantifiable number of instances in BF2, when I have wished that people would stop exploiting the glitches or that someone would enforce that behaviour, even if it takes the studio a while to patch it.

It pisses me off when people wall glitch or whatever, whilst saying 'if we weren't meant to then it wouldn't be in the game, duh'. Well, at last someone has stood up and said, 'No, actually that's a glitch, don't do it. Or else.'

I know the roof one on highrise is legit. And the Afgan one if its the one i'm thinking of you run up the wing of the plane (its pretty easy to jump on) and jump towards the pipes. You can also run up the tail and get to that sniper spot everyone shoots from.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/12/microsoft-difference-between-cheat-exploit-none-banned.ars

People have always wondered, what is the difference between a cheat and an exploit? Microsoft says none.

I guess glitchers now have to be wary of what they do.
Good. I was the victim of this yesterday & its the most annoying thing in the world.

Doing it once = accidental.

Doing it EVERY death = Glitcher & cheater. End of.

Glitchers need to keep out of matchmaking, Sure there is a glitch in the game, but its bad sportsmanship, End of.
