Yes, there is. The game seems like a weird amalgam of LoTR, Warhammer and the Witcher. What it borrows from the Witcher is the very modern shades of grey outlook. There quite often is no "good" option, only a choice between several bad ones.
Sure it has elves, dwarves and dragons. It also presents them in a far more realistic and interesting way than you would expect from Mr. Crowshaw's rant (I usually agree with the man, but he got this one very, very wrong) or what you would expect from other works in a high fantasy setting. Racism, rape, murder, genocide, avarice, betrayal, regicide, underhanded politcs, its a very dark game. The writing is excellent, head and shoulders above Bioware's very high standards.
Dragon Age all the way, for me.
