I came across this very randomly, http://www.allgamesbeta.com/2011/11/modern-warfare-3-child-death-outrage.html or http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dZhRNAeE9rk

Please take a minute to judge the video. You watched it ? Good, Okay as we can clearly see in what appears to be MW3 a child is killed by a bomb blast. Will this cause unnecessary controversy ? and what are your opinions ?

My opinion: I honestly don't have a problem with it, it's sad and a little disturbing but really I don't see it crossing any limits, the player is not actually interacting in anyway it's really just a cut scene and their have been far worse things in games then this so I'll happily let it pass.

[EDIT] Ok calm down people, I left my Escapist logged on and my roomie thought it was his login and commented that. I'll be moving on now, off to play some Black Ops.

It's not even slightly controversial. As someone else said in another thread, you don't see the kid choking to death, nor anyone else doing the same. Just her and her mother disappearing in a cloud of green smoke, while the dad falls over and seemingly dies instantly, without any gasping breathes or choking sounds.

To be honest, TV shows have scenes that are a lot more controversial then that one. :p

Is it wrong that I laughed my arse off at that?
It was so abrupt, it was hilarious.

It's almost as if they took Yahtzee's words to heart.

"Hmm...it seems shooting hundreds of innocent russians wasn't enough. What can we do to 1up that?!"

"Blow up a little girl. Imagine how FOX would cover that!"

I wish the Modern Warfare people would just get it already, stop going out of your way to create controversy every damn time. Look, the nuke death in COD4 was awesome because no one expected it and it was truly horrifying to pull yourself out of the wreckage of your helicopter, past all the dead bodies of your comrades, to look upon this utterly devastated city.

Being a Russian terrorist or killing kids isn't even close to the same, it just gets old when you come up with this stuff just to try and top what you did last time.

It's absolutely pointless. I could see a scene like that in a game like Heavy Rain, where it would actually be important. But, like the airport massacre in whichever Call of Duty game it was (MW2, I think?) it's there only for shock value, and so they can pretend to be mature.

This isn't mature. It's childish.

I wouldn't say it's not controversial... but I wouldn't say it is. It just seems unnecessary to me. It kind of looks like they did it to get the game more exposure (because CoD doesn't have enough of that already) because it will inevitably be picked up by hysterical sensationalists. And it really was unnecessary. I mean do we really need to see a small child die just to show that London has been attacked? I bet someone (probably Fox) will take this and say the player actually kills the child too.

The Call of Duty series is desensitizing people to violence and death. Their games are aimed at an immature audience that will think killing everyone who is not the same as you is the right thing to do.
Nope. (Apart from who its aimed at, I guess.)

I love how this has been spoiled before before the game is released. Thanks random internet people!

On the plus side, its not well acted, constructed, written or conceived, so only 5 people will care its been spoiled. Apologies if you were one of them.

OT: I honestly could not care less. The real crime is that the scene is shit in every aspect.

In all honestly it seems pretty weak in comparison to the last finger quote controversy scene in this series, however I'm sure some people will be shocked and angered by this. I would like to remind them that child deaths isn't that new in things and even games for example Bioshock shows dead children quite a few times and even them dying. Maybe I'm desensitised to all this but unless the little girls spleen hits the screen I'm not going to be shocked or saddened by it.

Wow, wasn't expecting THAT! I figured they'd get to Big Ben before something would happen haha. And if you look closely, the driver runs out of the truck XD

I agree with everything that's been said so far, I feel that they're trying to see how far they can go with making things controversial... One more reason why I'll stay away from this game

Was that Ghost and Gaz's voice actor in the end there? Jesus, you think they would've used him enough.

They even put that scene in the demo for the game. I played it recently since I never really knew anything about the game before they announced the sequel which made me curious. I was very impressed by it.

But yeah, it didn't cause a stir because no-one knows about it. There's hundreds of games more graphic than the games that get targeted for stuff like this but they don't get any attention because they're obscure.
