Yes I know, I'm late to the party.

Here's the skinny, I just can't get to grips with MW3 and I need your help in noobing the pwns (that's what you pro's say right?)

I was proficient in "MW2 fu" but the jump up to 3 has left me wanting, to the point that I stole a team mates care package last night, I felt like a junkie needing a fix when I launched that overwatch copter.

So any tips you guys and gals can give me would be hugely appreciated, in MW2 I used to rock the Scar H and P90 with slight of hand, but using MW3's Scar L I'm not getting the same sort of response so what weapon should I be using?, also I used Commando (for fall damage, not knify knify) but I don't understand any of the perks, apart from Hardline and Slight of Hand.

Will you people give me good advice knowing that I a) use commando and b) stole a care package

Seriously?, what's wrong with MW3 apart from the fact I'm shit at it.

Well, if you've played a call of duty game before, you've played this. They're essentially the same.
I've played MW1, MW2 and now MW3, no they are not the same.

Its the DmC argument, no they are not the same game, if they were the same game then why does the Scar from MW2 act differently to MW3?

I'll admit that the tactile responsiveness of the controls from one CoD game to the next is pretty identical, but the actual gameplay is not, thanks to its robust online community, no two games are the same. This is more of an argument for online players but hey, the point still stands.

Thanks for all the tips btw guys, the following is essentially our transcripts.
Me: "can I get some tips to be better at MW3"
others: "here's a tip, play a better game"
Me: "how does playing another game make me better at MW3?"

Other than the auto-aim, the FOV, the spawn system, the killstreak system, the design philosophy, and the community?

You should try Hat Fortress 2 instead. It's harder to be shit at it, but at the same time the more difficult classes are significantly more skill-indexed than anything in Modern Warfare Whatever.

The M4 is probably one of the best assault rifles in the game, low recoil, high rate of fire.

Because of this, you won't need to use the kick profiency, you'll want to unlock the 2 attachments profiency, then slap the RDS and extended mag attachments on it.

The ACR is also a great choice, but that's more suited to medium to long range since it's rate of fire isn't too great for close range conflicts.

The MP7 is the best sub-machine gun in the game.

The Striker is the best shotgun in the game.

You're right, Modern Warfare 1 was actually good. (Sorry, my hatred for CoD couldn't resist)
LOL its cool, I pretty much asked for it by making this thread didn't I?

The Nades in MW1 were way too overpowered, I didn't like MW1 to be honest because of it, MW2 had a bigger emphasis on gun play but the way overpowered killstreaks killed it, but MW3 it feels like the nade throwing doesn't work... much like MW1 without its effective blast radius and damage count. Chuck nade, nade rolls back.

Also I had MW1 and MW2 in French, it feels far superior in French.

I just don't know what the perks are in English, I can't understand them and what they are meant to do.

MechWarrior?
OK, pro tip always keep an eye on those heat sinks, if you shut down in the middle of a battle it is all over for you.
Also try and stay close to cover before engaging anyone at high range, so if they pull out some mad trick you haven't seen before you can take a step back and sort the mech out for the next encounter.
Or if you are really good go at it at full speed, get on their back and just lay down the pain, most people are used to just dealing with long range targets and break down when it gets up close and personal.

Right so the Scar L isn't as good as in MW2?, I think I've seen the M4 from killcams, like a lot

what about perks?

I think you just need a noob friendly class, now one of the best (now slightly less) hidden gems in the gun pile is the very first LMG. Now the thing bounces round like tigger from winnie the pooh but the thing is VERY accurate, disproportionately from the sights ... even more so when you use kick proficiency and a grip attachment, which I do.

You also have to grind like crazy to get the better perks, I always use blindeye, assassin and stalker all pro. I don't camp, I just use it not to be mowed down by the constant air support and stalker will let you move faster with ADS and things like claymores and bouncing betties will not effect you ... unless you take a minute to get past it.

Use the support kill streak with UAV and counter UAV, nothing more. You will get EXP like crazy, you can always see them and they can never see you, which means they are easier to kill, plus the 100 exp from calling them in and you are helping your team.

Play kill confirmed for extra exp points.

Another great gun to use is the "water gun" or the pp90 (or something) you will know it when you see it 'cos it looks fucking weird. Stick a silencer and kick on that thing and go to work.

EDIT: That LMG is slightly less hidden 'cos a youtuber highlighted how good the gun is but I haven't played the game in months so I am not sure how well used it is ... I used to own with the thing though.

Spamming those flashbangs while fire at anything until either me or everyone else in the room was dead was usually my tactic in all the modern warfare games anyway.

All excellent tips.

Also, OP, I hesitate to recommend this because it is kind of a freebirth move to pull, but have you tried legging? Unlike a lot (all?) of the other MW games, legging is instantly lethal in MW3. Leg armor is generally substantially weaker than torso armor.

The only winning move is not to play

Now that the obvious joke is out of the way. . .

I would recommend the ACR as it seems fairly easy to use, honestly your best bet would be to check out the call of duty wiki.

I need to add you to my PSN again, got a new PS3 and its not letting me sign in to my old account.

I always had UAV, Counter UAV and Emergency Airdrop on MW2, best streaks by far for team works and team wins.

I'll be taking your tips and Daystars too, thank you very much.

Do you mean Team Fortress 2?, steam doesn't work for me, on any number of machines I've tried, I bought the Orange Box and I got nothing.

Its funny how the internet makes people act isn't it? in real life just the other day my friend bought a BMW and everyone immediately told him that he should have bought a Ferrari instead, because all BMW's are the same, he's such a noob he doesn't realise it.

The Type 95, as the only other three-burst fire weapon, is a brilliant gun for killing people at range without difficulty and it's also pretty awesome at close range. The downside is it makes you a ****. The M4, G36C and ACR are also guns you should look into using. They all have clips sufficient for killing more than one person or missing (the main issue with the SCAR is that it doesn't have a big enough clip) and they're all pretty powerful. The G36C has a fair bit of recoil though, so watch out for that, but if you can handle it then you'll be pulling out at the top of the boards in no time. I don't really use sub-machine guns that often but I prefer to use the MP5. It's one of the most underrated guns in the game - people will often much prefer to use the UMP 45, PP90M1, P90 or MP7.

As for attachments and proficiencies I usually use a silencer with a sight, depending on whether I choose kick or dual attachments. It's really just what you think the gun demands, but the silencer is often always attached. To go with that silencer I use Scavenger, Assassin and another appropriate perk. Scavenger is often swapped out for Sleight of Hand and Blind Eye, as they become appropriate.

Really just go through all the weapons available and use the one that becomes most appropriate. I find that I love the Riot Shield and RSASS make a nice combination, despite being quite ineffective for killing everyone, it's great for supporting people.

:p Bastard, took what I was gonna say. Well, essentially.

I was gonna say "Looking for tips at MW3? Biggest one I can suggest is "Don't play MW3." Seriously, they tried to do way too much with it and now it's just crap."

Honestly I think they should go back to the days of the first Modern Warfare. You get 1 UAV, 1 Airstrike, and 1 Chopper, and that's it until you die. I think re-simplifying the whole mess would do the CoD franchise a world of good.

The good thing about the Scar is it's concentrated fire, it's bullet spread is very narrow so you can pretty much unload a whole clip without any trouble.

Scavenger is probably the ideal perk for assault rifle builds (can be replaced with blind-eye if you've got an extended mag attachment.)
Because Assault rifles are great guns on their own, you won't really need a pistol of machine pistol, so carry a launcher instead to swat down those pesky choppers and air support.

Sub-machine guns rely on speed and CQC, so sleight of hand lets you keep moving and lets you swap to a sidearm very quickly.

Assassin is a good perk for snipers and sub-machine gun users. Especially for snipers, not so much for the invisibility to air support, but because the pro version stops your name from appearing over your head when aimed at.

Marksmanship and Assassin basically allows a sniper to see an enemies name from a greater distance, while also making themselves harder to detect.

"Play a better shooter" is actually good advice when it comes to recent CoD games. You'll have more fun with something else. How about Tribes: Ascend? It costs literally nothing, doesn't require steam, and is very skill-intensive.
