His penis was recovered and reattached, it wasn't a transplant or anything like that. I'm not even sure if penis transplants exist. Though if we can transplant faces, why not?
You know, as soon as I read this story, I was wondering if penis transplants existed as well. If so, then the course of action is clear:

Step 1: Sue doctor for every penny he's got.

Step 2: Use lawsuit money to pay for transplant.

Step 3: ???

Step 4: Profit

But yeah, this whole situation is completely fucked. I'm normally not for people suing the crap out of each other... but this doctor really needs to get the crap sued out of him. No excuse for that.

It was treatable cancer, not a freaking time bomb. He had NO right to do that, the man's life was not in jeopardy in the slightest.

But now I know, if I ever have to get major surgery done, to write, "Do not cut my dick off" upside down above my crotch in magic marker beforehand.

"When you know your doctor is a little bit too overeager. That, and Calvinist."
No offense to any out there.

When I read "Amputation" I feared for the worst.

Being right isn't always a good thing.

Poor guy.

Religion at its finest! Butchering genitalia is such a civilized practice is it not?

Sucks that he had cancer there though. Dick-cancer sucks.

Finally someone sued for a proper reason, unlike the lady who fell in the pool on that mall for example.

A guy (Guy A) sued another guy (Guy B) for the damage caused to Guy A's hand when he punched Guy B in the face. Guy A was the aggressor and there were several witnesses who testified that Guy A was in the wrong. He got an $80,000 pay out.

In an extremely Frankenstein type of way?
My friend, I cannot help myself.

Every cloud has a silver lining, and all that?

I don't even understand how this happened. Doctors are really careful these days (what with the sue-happy attitude of patients) to go "by the book", so to speak, to cover themselves in the event of any future lawsuits. This man... just... wow. He ruined his professional career, and the patient's life. I bet he's sitting at home, wishing he could turn the clock back and change that one decision.

Although... What if the doctor warned the patient beforehand that the operation may result in amputation if deemed necessary? No operation is totally risk-proof, and patients do have to sign consent before going in. I find it difficult to believe the doctor would have amputated without any consent, if only because that would be ridiculously stupid and could result in him being unable to practice medicine anymore. (Which, after years studying and paying for the education, would really suck).

Wait what?

Also, besides the fact that he CHOPPED HIS PENIS OFF, Its clearly malpractice as he did not have permission to perform any surgery besides the circumcision.

Cant he just get a plastic willy as replacement, and everyone is happy?
No. I don't think he would be happy to have a plastic willy. I imagine he'd much prefer to have his back. You know, for sexual pleasure and what not.
I'm sure though I would be happy not to die of cancer, and live to see the day when plastic willies have nerves attached to them.
Actually replacement penises ARE medically possible according to what i heard. However, there IS a catch. You must give up a finger.
I agree with Ultratwinkie, I recall reading articles where penis's have been replaced by a finger, or something along those lines.

What the hell?! This sounds like something that would happen in Cyanide and Happiness, not real life! Actually, I think it did in one C&H comic.
But seriously, poor guy. Hope everything works out.
