As wrong as it is, you can't really blame them. No one wants what happened on 9/11 or various other terrorist attacks to happen again. Even though I can't really say this since I'm not muslim, you guys should just get over it.
I'm not muslim either (God forbid (no pun intended)). I've been born in America, raised in America and spent most of my live in this country, however happen to be unlucky enough for my mother to be turkish. How exactly is getting on my nerves every time I fly, for no reason but my skin tone, going to prohibite terrorism?

Are you saying all muslims want terrorist attacks to continue?

There have been many terrorist attacks in the past, not just by muslim (if that's even accurate) EXTREMIST's. Although I don't practice Islam, my parents do and they haven't declared death to those who oppose it strangely enough ^^.

Anyway, on topic. It hasn't happened to me, although I do feel I get some weird looks when I'm out n about. I suppose that could be something to do with the fact I wear a jacket when it's sunny out xD. My mum's received racist abuse when going to pick up her grandson from school a few times and some chav threw a lit cigarette into her coat hood. Other than that, my niece and nephew get the usual racist word or two from degenerates.

If he had a beard I would probably mistake him for a Irish man not a terrorist.

The US has one of the highest per capita incarceration rates in the world. nearly 1 in 100 adults has been through our prison system, chances are, more than once.
Also, half of all persons incarcerated are for non-violent offenses, and 20% (in State prisons, whereas Federal prison percentages are higher) are incarcerated for drug offenses.

add to that the fact that blacks and latinos make up over 60% of our prison population and you get an image of what happens. Colored people are brought under random suspicion far more often. I'd call that racism, and it's a shame.

Yeah, both my dad and I are on the TSA terrorist watchlist, not because of anything we've ever actually done, but because our last name, Johnson, happens to be shared by a known terrorist. That means that every time I try to fly anywhere, the airport runs extra checks on me because of my name. Some would take offense to this name based profiling. Not me though, I think it's fucking hilarious.

So, if I may offer some advice, just laugh about how stupid and racist the people who continue to suspect your father are, because the unfortunate truth is that there's not too much else you can do. Not until we as a people learn to look past race and fear at least, and one might be forgiven for thinking that time could be a little ways off.
But Johnson is one of the most common surnames in the english speaking world????????

And that really sucks for your family dude. File a nice formal complaint and if they keep doing it, if it gets to like ten times or something, i'm pretty sure you should be able to sue them or something.

My friend who's Indian has to shave his beard every time he goes on a plane to save several more hours of waiting.

Also, my scout troop took a trip up in Canada and the leader warned us against having knives at all. Turns out she had forgotten about a knife from a previous campout and the security found it.

Reminds me of the Brazilian guy Wan Demezez? In London who got shot for running on suspicion of being a terrorist when he was an imagrent and scared. Go police! Would'nt get that here in Scotland, we kick our terrorists and suspected terrorists in the balls.

My dad has darker skin (hes outside a lot), and a beard (says he hates shaving), Technically he can trace his family back to the American Civil war, but every time we go to the airport he gets pulled aside and given a full body scan, once even a pat down.

Hes rather polite about it, but i guess he could look middle eastern to an idiot, i mean his name is Doug for crying out loud.

I'm of Middle Eastern extraction, and I frequently get the "extra search" at airports, along with my father, who is even darker than me.

Even though I have no right to say this, that's something that everyone capable of wielding a gun can do. The United States are at war with various factions that happen to be Muslims. Of course their gonna be weary if someone shows up.

Its not right, but what else are they gonna do? Would you rather hundreds of people lose their lives then you just being inconvenienced for what, like a couple of minutes? Also, I'm not a double standard. If there were black people committing of bombing and police officers and security guards decided to hold me up, I would say the exact same thing in my post. I'll be pissed at it, but at least I'll keep my word.

If I was the OP's dad I'd post a sign on my front lawn saying "I'm Italian, not middle eastern." Something to that effect.

I don't know, I think it's the turbans that do it, or the beards. For example. My friend's father has an enormous beard, and whenever he is traveling not with his family, he gets singled out for the special line for people who looks suspect. HE HAS A FREAKIN' YORKSHIRE ACCENT! It is very silly...

Yeah. And spies who stop Villains.

Glad to say I never really get racism pointed at me, and to quote a song "I'm whiter than sour cream" (Weird Al - White And Nerdy), though my parents have said "It's okay to be gay, you know that right?"... I'm not gay, I mean, I stare at the lingerie posters in shopping centres like any other bloke.

To sum up most peoples replies to this thread: The majority of the human population could be beaten on "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire" by a Big Brother contestant.
