I agree with many of the other posters. Go with Tali as a first name and, if you must, go with Zora as a middle name, but don't do the full Tali'Zora as a first name.
So would her middle name be Erim, or is that her nickname?krazykidd said:I would totally name my hypothetical Daughter Lufia. Good thing that anyone outside of very specific gaming circles would even know where that is from.
OT: you are crazy. But the world needs crazy. I suggest naming her Tali and her second name zorah. Also the kods on the playground won't even get it.
Why yes, you do. And it has happened quite a few times. Enjoy the sadness! Or drink yourself unconscious, which is what i feel like doing.SimpleThunda said:wat... Pls tell me this did not happen.NortherWolf said:3: Enjoy the fact you will be joining the hordes of pathetic fangirls who named their kid Khaleesi
Do I share a planet with these people?
I agree with this. While personally I think Tali is an acceptable name (if only just), the fact that it's chosen because of a video game character preference is just awful.Casual Shinji said:Yes you are.
Far be it from me to give anyone advice on childrens names, since I have none, but please don't treat your child as part of your nerd paraphernalia. If you wanna show you like the character of Tali, wear a T-shirt.
Don't subject your own child to a silly name for the rest of her life, just because you and your wife liked Mass Effect once.
God, I hadn't even thought about that... *shudder*Add to that that she'll one day find out her parents named her after a videogame character you had the option to fuck. Talk about awkward.
From what you are saying, you have not listened to the whole episode, in which such concerns and other studies are talked about. Studies you quote are just as problematic, albeit in a different way.CloudAtlas said:Yes, because this "study" with a sample size of TWO is totally a proof for anything. In contrast to the studies that show that e.g. typical "under class" names (celebrity names and such) lead to lower grades in school and lower income later, everything else equal.Augustine said:I recall a Freakonomics episode a while back, where a sociologist conducted an experiment on the effects of names on his own children - naming them "M" and "Yo". As I recall, the names had no detrimental effect on their lives, and both were rather happy with their names.
So, there you have it.
You don't know how happy you made me. Not only does someone remember this two decade old game, but has an even more obscure reference than Lufia. Erim would definately be a second name, as a nickname it would confuse the hell out of everybody.Uratoh said:So would her middle name be Erim, or is that her nickname?krazykidd said:I would totally name my hypothetical Daughter Lufia. It is. Their culture puts the given and family name first followed by the ship they're attached to, hence why her name changed to Tali' zorah vas normandy in the second game.madwarper said:a) I'm fairly certain that Tali is her first name and the Zorah is her surname, considering her father is Admiral Rael'Zorah.
b) Tali [http://www.ourbabynamer.com/baby-names-Tali.html] is a real name. Hebrew in origin, meaning "dew of heaven".
Every time something or someone reminds me of lufia, a little sad tear appears in my eye. DAMN YOUUUUU!!!!!1111krazykidd said:I would totally name my hypothetical Daughter Lufia. Good thing that anyone outside of very specific gaming circles would even know where that is from.

At least cats are unlikely to get picked on at recess.Chemical Alia said:I was pretty embarrassed when I learned my middle name came from Dune, and I even liked that book. Personally, I wouldn't even name a pet after a video game or something similar...it's just too nerdy and you're not the one who has to live with it and explain it whenever someone asks. As someone with a first name that's also kind of unusual, people DO ask.
The only exception is "Thwomp." For a cat.
Yes, and we're not berating the name on a routine basis or singling out the kid for having it. Things fairly likely to happen with kids.testiou said:Why do you guys all say "Kids can be cruel"... here is a thread full of people who think that name is strange - or even stupid.
