I'm sorry if you were hoping for something exciting, but the title is literal. My door won't shut all the way after midnight. Let me tell the story:

Yesterday, I complained to my mother that my door won't shut all the way and the cat kept pushing it open to come in and whine at me/chew on my stuff. "See!" I exclaim, pushing it--click. It shuts. Mom laughs at me.

Fast forward to one o clock last night. Cat is again bugging me. I push the door. It won't click no matter what I do.

This morning I try it again. Click. ?!

There is no significant temperature difference to affect the wood, I'm not pushing it differently, everything is the same except for the time! My door is haunted or something, only explanation. Weird.

Any suggestions/solutions???

Burn the door, then get a new door, then burn that door, wash rinse repeat a few times, then get a new un-hauntable door.
Sound good?

Get an exorcist to try and get rid of the ghost that is obviously haunting your door.
And if it doesn't work you have will have on rip shit pissed ghost who then begin to haunt your sock drawer.

Humidity in the house as well as heat is causing the door and the frame to warp slightly. As things dry/moisten, the bolt and hole don't line up as well, and thus causes shutting the door to be problematic.

To those who suggest a new lock: it doesn't have one. It's just a regular door that for some reason won't pull to late at night. And the cat isn't really what I'm worried about; I can just do what I did last night and deposit him outside, as annoying as it is to have to get out of bed.

I'm just confused as to why this is happening at all. >.< Maybe I have a witch cat...

I'm no contractor, engineer, or architect, but here are my two cents: probably the house foundation settling at night. Throws the door frame off so that door knobs/locks don't catch. Or, maybe the cat is actually not a cat but an evil monkey and has figured out how to open the door. Does your cat eat bananas and throw poop a lot? Does it have a prehensile tail and opposable digits? Does it brachiate? If it is an evil monkey, burn the house down and run like the wind blows. That or just tickle it under the arms and say things like, "Ooga, booga, booga." That usually pacifies evil monkeys. Wait, that may be for naughty monkeys... I'm not really sure.
