not sure what hot topic is, but i'm behind you 100% there. i got fed up with that before i even finished episode 1.

Hot Topic is an american brand of clothing stores that tries to appeal to the "niche" categories. They specialise in shitty anime items like cat ears, stupid "witty" t shirts and especially pathetic goth gear. If you see a tramp walking around in a gothic kilt with big ugly studded bracelets, a blood vial or ankh necklace and ripped panty hose then they more than likely shop at hot topic.
Basically its clothing for douchebags.

I find that really interesting. How did you come to that?

Actually the idea was first presented to me many years ago in a novel called Stranger in a Strange Land , if you haven't read it even considering it's age it's still a top rate sci fi novel. Over the years it's kept coming back to me, and I've considered how often people laugh at others misfortune and at our differences.
Eventually I just came to conclusion that even though it was stated in a work of fiction I can't deny it. When I look at what is generally considered comedy, it's embarrassing, or differential, or down right cruel and on the whole it backs up that theory.

There's also that old saying of laugh so you don't cry... or something to that effect.

At any rate I've never been able to disprove it, so as of now I'm considering it a proven theory.

Thats new to me, I guess I will give it a go.

I suppose the title of this topic CAN be a bit misleading. It was really more of a way to introduce the horribleness of the video. From your reply, it almost would seem like you didn't even read the OP. The point of this thread is to ask why the people in said vid have gotten famous off of something so horrible, while people who actually make an effort in their videos don't get jack shit. EDIT: Let me rephrase that, I'm not disgusted at THEM per se, as much as I am disgusted at people who have been looking at this and calling it genius. Last I heard these two landed an acting business from this video.

I call it the Fred Effect. It's when one person makes an utter fucking fool of himself that everyone flocks to see him make said fool of himself that eventually he becomes a fucking phenomenon. You can apply the same thing to mainstream audiences.
