Sure it is. Kid is trying to tell us that because x is hard to get it's alright to steal x. That my friends is bullshit. I'm not saying he shouldn't do it. I'm the last person in the world who's going to bust people for it *glances at piles of burned dvds* but saying it's fine to do so is horseshit.

No. I'm going to say exactly what you told us not to pull. Videogames are luxury entertainment items and piracy is not justifiable just because you're bored.
What does it being luxury items or not have to do with anything? As if it were for educational purposes, it'd be totally justifiable?

By the way, I totally disagree that piracy is not justifiable. But for the sake of argument, I'll play along.
If they were indeed for educational purposes than they could be justifiable for families who would not have access to the education presented in the game otherwise. In situations where it has no real purpose than it seems that you're just taking advantage of the gaming companies.

Fine. Addiction isn't fun. However how does this relate to you needing to get new games via piracy?

I'm going to guess that the companies that make educational materials are generally going to disagree with you. Rightfully so, too. Not that I'm against the idea of pirating anything at all, but I don't see how you can say it's ok to pirate company A's stuff, but not company B. It's all or nothing. Just because you have these morals that "feel" that it's ok to copy their stuff, doesn't mean my morals "feel" that it's ok, too.

I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. What's the word fine even mean? It's just an opinion. Anyone can call anything fine, and it's hard to say they're wrong, because it's just an opinion. You can't really prove anything, either way.

He's 16. It's not like the opinions he has now are going to be his forever. If that were the case I'd think it'd still be "fine" to not study and not listen to my parents. Oh the good old days.

Fair enough, but I would personally choose to screw company A for the sake of education for the less fortunate than screw company B for no apparent reason.

Whatever this thread is creating an argument that's ultimately futlile. People will continue to do what they will regardless of what me, Runetheplacered, or any of the many people who will most likely never come in contact with one another, say about what they do. I'm off everybody have a good time and try not to get stressed about the quarrels of people you, most likely, never meet. Call that surrender if you like, really doesn't matter.

Relax, You know sometimes it's interesting to hear others opinions on things, Like this. I know people are against piracy and it's nice to hear some "good" arguments on why it's bad instead on people just saying "It's bad dont do it".

That's a sign you should seriously consider taking up another hobby. Once you've reached the point where you will break the law to get what you want, it's time to quit.

You strike me as the sort of person who shouldn't be gaming, because it's going to be really destructive to your life going forward, you're going to become a media story, and the rest of us will all be made to look bad. Go take up model railroading or something.

I hate to call it surrender, because what are you surrendering to? I really didn't think anything was hostile. We were just conversing. It's ok that not everyone agrees, that's what they call, "The spice of life!"

Either way, I have to go to work now, so I'm probably done with this thread too. But, I'll see you guys in another one, I'm sure.

I knew it was a bad paralell, And I have been bettering on that recently, You know growing up usealy fixes some of those things.

Also it's not only games, Im dependent on computer for my social life to, I mean if your like me and have like 1 friend you will feel VERY lonley if you can't chat or go to forums, These days you can't just go outside and "meet" friends that easy.

I have another hobby, Sharpshooting, And i'm joining a club very soon. And no that gun wont be pointed at another human because i want games ^^. Now i just need my dad to tag along.

Agreed.

It's not that I'm against piracy. In fact I think it's the biggest voice we have when it comes to making developers and publishers listen to us (look at all this Spore DRM shit) but people's attempts to rationalise something that is, in the eyes of the law, theft always bugs me. OP said earlier piracy of games is his only option because they're so expensive and then goes on to say he pirates anime because of liscensing/translation issues. Even if they were liscensed would he buy them? Probably not because of aformationed expense point.

Model railroading kicks all three kinds of ass.

Not when you factor in boxsets and whatnot. In terms of entertainment per minute I'd say anime is more expensive.

True but then again you can just buy episode one and two and se if you like it, When it comes to games you have to pay full price and if you didn't like it, Well "Sucks to be you"

You're forgetting rentals, demos and reviews.

Rentals, fair enough. Demos and reviews however, cannot be taken so seriously I'm afraid. I've gone by what I've seen in demos before and been horribly shocked with the full game and we all know how reliable reviews have become. They're more like whorings instead.
