I see.

I'll just say this:
Never bend to an enemy.
Never make an enemy of someone who previously had no reason to bother you and that won't be much of a problem.

OT:
Just tell your friend to not let it bother him. He riled up a hornets nest and he got stung for it. Odds are pretty good if he drops it and doesn't try to retaliate he should be fine.

Your friend has more chance of being killed or harmed by his mother than 4chan.
Well, great... he's going to fear his mom now.

The capable guys among anon usually don't hang out at chan or /b/ anymore(if they ever did).
Chan anons are mostly 12 to 18 years old and we all know what 99% of them are all about.

The guys who can be dangerous(the real Hackers/Crackers) focus on rather improtant stuff(CoS, net-neutrality etc.) and certainly don't care about those childish "my di** is bigger than yours" games anymore. They are about the cause itself and the skills implied.

But nevertheless any personal data (Youtube, Facebook, Twitter) can be used against him and maybe he will have to get some new profiles/accounts.

I wouldn't care too much if he didn't rant for hours, because (like already said) anons tend to forget such stuff rather quick and it happens all the time, so they rant for 5 minutes and then go on ranting about the next guy.

4chan is huge, and the fact he has been traced down without having anything online means it is someone who actually knows him (or of him) that has been stalking on behalf.

It's easy to trace people down when your user base is fucking huge with most just waiting for someone they know to appear in a thread.

But as it was ages ago it's only as dangerous as whoever these dudes are that are contacting him, it's not really 4chan anymore. The fact it's obviously getting to him is the reason it's still going on as well, tell him to grow a pair.

One: Even I know the wrath of 4Chan. Hell, did you see the literal mountains of annoyance they where during MM?

Two: Tell him to just ignore them. How do you stop a troll? Just let it go away, don't keep coming back.

ANON is an enemy to everyone.
Therefore, everyone should make them their enemy in order to root them out.
You can't make an enemy out of something that doesn't exist in simple terms. You never know who is an Anon. I'm sure some have posted in this thread.

I have to agree, these people are nothing more then bullies that haven't learned to deal with their frustration or whatever in any way that isn't harmful to someone else, honestly they are as bad as kids who beat beat up other kids during lunch.

That's fantastic!

I've never heard of this 'anonymous' until now... Sounds like insecurity on their part, or immaturity. Pathetic regardless. Tell your friend to take his actions and the repercussions as a lesson. Don't bat the beehive, and think you won't get stung.

They seem more like a force of nature than anything else. You don't fight a hurricane, you just wait for it to pass on by. Given the nature of the internet, your suggestion is much more trouble than it's worth.

Personally, I have zero fear of Anonymous.

Probably because the stuff I don't want people to see on my computer is on a flash drive that uses military grade hardware encryption, self destruct technology if tampering is detected, or if you guess the password wrong a certain number of times. Resetting the number of password attempts is also impossible due to specialized technology, thus making it practically 100% unhackable. I never give out personal details I don't want known, and I don't have a cellphone, or home phone.

In all honestly, even if I did have a home phone number, I wouldn't be bothered by threats. However, I wouldn't go out of my way to hit a wasp nest.

Paranoia based computer and network security for the win.

Oh, there is little chance of that. Why nobody at Anonymous is reading this thread right now. Now let us hear no more about this bizarre cover-up.

Hey OP: What did your friend do/say anyway? And what makes him think that somebody he doesn't know irl isn't doing all of this, hmm?

Ok. Anonymous are not cruel or dangerous or anything like that. Hell, 4chan isn't even the worst place ever (especially not /b/). Have you any idea how long this kind of shit has been on the internet for? Sorry but I've had it up to here with The Escapists attitude towards the place. You people need to realise that 4chan and more specifically anonymous is little more than a bunch of teenagers hopping around pretending to be hard.

As for your friend, actually posting a video on youtube insulting 4chan was provoking them a little but for fucks sake, it's a group that calls themselves 'anonymous' and have no known identities. That speaks volumes for them. So they're phoning, e-mailing, shopping pictures/sending stuff to your him. It's so easy to get a hold of information these days. Does this mean your friend is actually in danger? Perhaps, if it falls into the wrong hands, i.e. not anonymous. You know occasionally they do interesting protests aswell as harrass people. It's a shame it's not comprised of more members like that who do something useful rather than a bunch of nerds with too much time on their hands. The harrassment, I believe stems from the part comprised of aforementioned teenagers whose lives are probably so boring and uneventful they need to live online in what they think is the equivalent of a secret fight club when in reality it's just a website where people go to post images and talk to each other like there's a serious deficiency in braincells.

They try to scare and threaten people through the internet because if they did it in real life, they'd get the shit kicked out of them (or stabbed, or shot, etc). Don't fear them, just pity them.
That is what your friend should do.

Your friend attacked anonymous. After as little as 5 minutes on 4chan, you have to know that that's a bad idea. The only possible reason for doing it would be to see what the repercussions would be.

Anonymous doesn't forget, and doesn't forgive is a large group of very sad people; some of them will have some kind of talent when it comes to finding people, and they will hunt you down over any perceived wrong. Pissing off the worst example of humanity in existence just seems like a bad idea.

I'm going out for a meal tonight to celebrate my 16th Birthday, and I am taking two friends. One of them goes on the internet frequently, and after making one Youtube video insulting 4chan, he was attacked by anonymous.

Ever since he has been afraid. He always thinks that people are trying to get him, and when he saw a Scientology Protest in Birmingham once, he almost cried.
Well, happy birthday first of all.

And the fact that he was scared of a Scientology protest is particularly disturbing. Really, we should all fear Scientology for the shite that it is, rather than the fact 4Chan declared war on them (and rightly so), and for the number of people it has attracted to it. At least mainstream religious leaders believe in their own religion.

You should tell him that it's highly unlikely that he is going to be attacked by a group of hackers at a friend's celebratory meal. What are they gonig to do - turn off the lights? As far as I know, Anonymous doesn't do anything physical - that's their strength, the internet. Unless your meal is at one of those new-fangled cyber-cafes with the internet integrated into the very security system, I think he'll be quite alright.

Proves that it's best not to insult Anonymous. There's no point. You won't get rid of it with words, so don't bother them, or set up a "religion" designed to make money. Don't do that, and you should be fine.
