While I don't really care if a person is gay or not, I WILL be bothered by those homosexuals that just HAVE to parade their gayness everywhere they go.
While gay marriage is just fine, adoption isn't. They can provide a loving, stable home and all, but it's just... not right for the kid. "Um, which one of you is my mommy?"
Someone hasn't researched parenting at all it seems. Males can provide feminine influences just as females can provide male influences. All the research on same sex parenting shows that it's no different from different sex parenting.

I would ask him how many gay people he actually knows. It's a lot easier to hate a group of people when you view them from a distance.

I think it's the little prejudices like this that really hold equal rights back, to be honest. As long as everyone thinks its OK to be discriminatory 'just a little bit', or 'as long as they keep it to themself', those ideas still won't disappear (and I realise saying that homophobia would ever just disappear is hyperbole, but bear with me). I think people should be taught it isn't acceptable to discriminate at all, and if you feel that way you need to try and look at things with more of an open mind.

If we're still maintaining this apathetic 'oh well, everyone's a bit prejudiced and there's nothing we can do about it', it's going to be a lot harder to change our society.

That kind of depends on a lot of things, people can be prejeduced against some group of people without being raging homophobes or racists or whatever. If the dude said it in a way that was pretty clearly "I hate gays" or something, that's a different story.
Yeah I agree with this.

Tell him he is a douche who can't wrap his head around acceptance, and the fact that its the 21st century, and that stuff like gay people are normal. It would suck if they were heterophobic. Imagine that...
well thats not the point of tolerace.
he doesnt have to ACCEPT their life style.
but he cant force them to change it.
he has to TOLERATE them.
and as long as he doesnt act out on it its his own opinion and he has a right to have one.
even tho i dont agree with him its his right.
He obviously can't tolerate it, because his friend had to ask the internet on how to handle it. So I assume that he is acting out in negative ways in an attempt to say that they are wrong. Which is wrong. Hence the reason I posted that.

I have a prejudice against homosexuals too.

At least that's what I'm told because I view it as a form of insanity (it fits the definition).
if it was mental sickness i strongly doubt they would stil function in socioty as well as they do
There are many mental illnesses that don't necessarily create socially dysfunctional or dangerous people.
whatever
On the bright side, this would mean that it could be genetic and people would have to stop saying that homosexuality is a choice.

Edit: Also, if you are one of those openly gay students, then I wouldn't call him much of a friend.

You should be banned. This forum is a bastion of intelligence.

Thinking up a topic that is known for going the way of a 360 when first being sold and saying discuss isn't a good idea. AT ALL.

(No I am not being a wanna-be internet popo', its just it annoys me when people do this. The discussion isn't focuses at all, leading to idiocy.)

Come out to him, then explain that you really aren't gay.

Let him see how much his opinion changed for one simple difference.

That's interesting. So a kid with two daddies wouldn't grow troubled at all?
What about the ostrazicing they would have to keep up with at school?

Let him have his own opinion. If he openly spreads this opinion then advise he get some therapy or something.

If he's not hurting anybody then there is no reason to hate him over this. However if you personally are offended by his choice then just stop talking to him.

I have a prejudice against gays as well, they have better fashion sense than straight people and are more likely to be able to stylishly decorate a house.

Yeah prejudices can be stupid and, hypothetically, harmless.

Bah, some people are just afraid of things they can't comprehend... If people just let others be who they want to be the world would be a better place. So take the first step, if he want to be a douche, just let him =P

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Freedom of speech and all that- just so long as he doesn't act on it. Though I'm surprised he admits that he is prejudiced- most people aren't so open about it.

Because being a hypocritical ass is always a good strategy.
It is not hypocritical. It is fair, because if you can't accept or tolerate, then you nor your actions should be tolerated. It is kind of a dick move though. But, hey short and sweet argument that would be fun for bystanders to watch.:) IT WORKS FOR EVERYBODY! (Except for the person who loses the argument, of course.)

Studies suggest that they get a bit more harrassed by people outside the home. We're discussing the parents and the kids, not the people outside of the family. Add that kids could still develop healthy relationships with friends at schools as well. What studies have found is that kids with gay parents have about the same chance of being bullied as any other student. Basically the argument you're using can be applied in the 1960's to mixed race marriages. What would the kid think of two different colored people in the house? Wouldn't the kid grow troubled by kids ostrazicing him at school?
