You've had the answer to your friends ignorance problem inside you the whole time!

OT: Working with the general public at Starbucks had led me to meet some rather... colorful people. I think one of my favorites was a lady from my first store who always ordered a ridiculously complicated drink. Like, ridiculous to the point that she asked us to tweak our machines for her. So even after she'd watch us make it, she'd slam the drink back down, say it was wrong, and then demand we make it again. We had to abide, cuz I like disposable incomes, but I still remember when we caught her bs'ing it. She did all of the regular routine, only midway through me making the second drink she picked up the first one and said it was perfect. From then on she was the first and only lady to make my black list.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Battlefield 3 looks pretty awesome but with all the crap ea is pulling with it I can completely understand getting something else, I'm going to just avoid it entirely since, as much as I want it, I don't want to deal with origin or the crappy back-end its got.

Your friend sounds like the type of gamer who makes the common illogical conclusion that if a lot of people love a game and talk about it, that it must therefore be for everyone. Not the case. Sometimes people prefer different types of games. Now, I have no interest in BF3, and it might be because I have the flying skills of a monkey on a sugar rush, but besides that it's just not my type of game. I like shooters, but vehicular shooters with too much going on don't appeal to me.

On the other hand, being the BAMF that is Batman has plenty of appeal. Different people just like different things.

Well obviously anyone who would choose a game where you play as Batman and fight supervillains instead of Brown Shooty Death 3 has got to have something wrong with him

I'm getting both. So, I would say to him: "I enjoy both, but don't have enough money. If you have such a problem with it, purchase the other for me."

That is how I get people to shut up about 'why don't you have this game?'

this is one of the biggest problems with the introduction of games into the mainstream audience- knobheads who've picked up babies first shooter and automatically think they have a platform on which they can judge other games, ones they probably haven't even played.

those of us who've been gaming for years before CoD et al are forced to put up with this because they've introduced such a large market share into gaming. long story short, your friend represents a large and mostly ignorant portion of the gaming community. as socrates once said, the only good in the world is knowledge, so you can help de-stupidise your friend by lending him arkham asylum, making him play it and hopefully he'll be humbled enough to learn something

I like how people are trying to rationalize the OP's decision for him by stating Batman > BF3.
Do you not realize you're trying to compare apples and oranges? Batman is not > BF3. And BF3 is not > Batman. The only way to state it is Batman != BF3.

OP, your friend is silly for trying to shove his tastes down your throat. That's not a fault of BF3 or FPS gamers in general. That's a fault of your friend. Make sure you remember the distinction.

If it weren't for Origin, I'd be getting both.

Now, having said that, I do think BF3 is more my type of game (due to competitive nature) than arkham city, BUT, arkham city is the game I'll be uploading gameplay of to youtube.

'cos it's more entertaining.

I did lend him it, he thought it sucked. Which is weird because he likes games like Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed which are pretty comparable to Arkham Asylum.

Both are awesome games, i think BF3 will have more lifetime tho just because, well its a battlefield game with multyplayer that atleast on PC will last a long time. AC looks like a awesome freaking game, you are in no way stupid for picking it and your friend is the stupid one for being blinded by another good game in the same month.

Seems like a classic single player vs. multiplayer schism.

Arkham City will almost certainly have a first rate single player game, so I'm going to be on-board early.

Battlefield 3 will likely have very good multi-player, but I don't give a damn about MP, so I'll be waiting to see the reviews to see if the SP is up to snuff.

HA! That alone made reading this thread worth it. Unfortunately, I can't think of any encounters off the top of my head. But then again all my friends that play games are not retarded really. Not in a fanboy sense anyway. I have a friend that calls anything simulation based "gay" but that is about as close as it gets in my inner circle.

Thanks for that little nugget of funny though. That cracked me up when I read it.

P.S. I think Arkham is the better buy. I would buy stock in Rocksteady studios if I could. I hope nothing happens to them for a while.

Battlefield 3 and Cawaduty 3 are going to be exactly the same: short, gray-brown, generic shooters with an overemphasis on multiplayer and great big stiffies for themselves.

Arkham City, if it's anything like Arkham Asylum, is going to be an epic, intense, and dark ride that keeps your heart-rate screaming even when you're not in combat. The choice is pretty much a no-brainer, so make sure he knows he has no brain.

Well for anyone who likes singeplayer Batman will be the choice to go for.

As for your friend he sounds like a trolling idiot, smacking him might not be a bad idea.
