I'm sorry, your GF, having never been a gamer, goes out and buy a PS3 then thinks "what games can I get"? Somebody has a nice amount of disposable income, which I am jelous of...

Nothing too childish is all we have to go on, but I assume something you can stick 300 hours into is bad aswell, does she want horror? Racing? RPG? JRPG? Platformer?

Is modnation racers too childish? I would have thought any lego game is too childish.

FF13? Seems rather girl/newby friendly.

ICO and Shadow of the Colossus HD remake- 2011 winter release
The Last Guardian- 2011 winter release
Ratchet and Clank- 5 titles excluding 1 DLC game
Little Big Planet
Portal 2
Assassins Creed series
God of War trilogy
Killer 7
Silent Hill 2 (entire series HD remake announced)

Hope that helps. The winter releases make great gifts so I included them. Nothing too easy or girly. :)

Spyro the dragon: number 1 and then 2.

Once she's got them out of the way then you can introduce her to the heavy stuff with lots of blood and fun murdering.

I got my gf interested in games with borderlands mainly, actually she's playing it now, it's a easy and fun game to get into without all the seriousness of most shooters.Other good games are the lego games.
But ultimately, just ask her what she wants to try and let her play those games, she's more likely to choose a game she will enjoy then you are to choose one for her.

um, how about the games that she is interested in? no 2 people are the same.
just because your only starting to play now doesn't change the games you would play. although if she is interested in shooters, try something like portal so she has a chance to adjust to the biases of shooters...hell, even if she isn't, portal is brilliant from just about every gaming perspective.

I think ModNation Racers would be pretty good, its a bit like Mario Kart, except you can really get into the whole creativity aspect, and its good fun to play together with :)

My girlfriend likes GTA, maybe something like that? Perhaps even Red Dead Redemption.

Oh, also God of War.

My sister loves the game Little Big Planet, but my younger sister also really liked Gran Tourismo 5 and Final Fantasy XIII. I would sugest those games as well. And ofcourse Ratchet and Clant Tool of Destruction. That game is really fun.

Bloody Wolf has lots of beefy guys having at each other with serrated knives. What's not for a gal to love in that?

Seriously though,if you buy her a Move controller set if she doesn't have one already, The Michael Jackson Experience might be a decent title to add alongside the others recommended by previous posters, you know, if you don't feel like asking her what kind of gaming experience she would like to have then trying to point her in the direction of whatever thing comes closest to meeting her expectations.

I say give her a little bit of everything and see what she likes. I don't have a PS3 so I don't know what the best titles are, aside from the ones everyone talks about. Indulge her in the classics (Sonic 2, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy I - X (not all of them at once, maybe just one)) then some modern greats (Portal, Batman: Arkham Asylum) and go from there.

Be warned though. I tried to teach some of my friends about gaming. I thought I made excellent headway when one bought a 360, but then she bought Fallout 3 (this was after New Vegas was released and, despite my pleading, she couldn't see the point in the Game of the Year edition) and both Left for Dead 1 and 2. She doesn't even have Live.

I hate my friends...

Something with an interesting and immersive story would be my advice. Heavy rain for drama or Red Dead Redemption / GTA 4 for something with a bit of humour! As she has a PS 3, Valkyria Chronicles is an excellent game for beginners and pro's alike. Good luck!

Abe's oddysey, Doom 3(NOT THE EXPANSION), LBP, and something free roamy with plenty to do. Aim high early on. do not patronize her. Give her a challenge, but be there to help.
