My girlfriend has just started to play games. What is best to start her on?

I say Ratchet and Clank: TOD or Crack in Time.

They're easy to get used to, fun, colourful, simple, funny and generally enjoyable.

Tomb Raider HD Trilogy, Heavy Rain and LittleBigPlanet 2 are my biggest recommendations.

I hate my friends...
Not paying for DLC for a game you aren't sure if you'll even like sounds like a good idea to me.

Well if you really want to get her involved in some more serious gaming, I would think that co-op would be the way to go. I don't really know too much about the PS3 catalogue (I'm a 360 gamer myself) but I'm sure you could find lots of good options. For all its flaws, Resident Evil 5 had a decent split screen co-op as I recall. Or if you're looking for something with a somewhat tamer aesthetic, even if it is a little old at this point, Marvel Ultimate Alliance was a lot of fun, and you could probably get it pretty cheap at this point. Fighting games can also be a lot of fun for some friendly competition.

If she's just starting you should probably put up portal, 1 or 2, or possibly some great small indie game.

... Minecraft. Portal 1 and 2. Final Fantasy. x:

All games I've fallen in love with and I'm a girl so yea.

You should REALLY just ask her rofl. If she likes fantasy, then FF or KH. If she likes to shoot things in the head, then.. I dunno. Some shooting game, duh.

If she likes solving puzzles and stuff, go with Portal 1/2 or something similar. x:

Since it has become free, Team Fortress 2. It comes highly recommended by critics, and me!

Megaman, the cute graphics and happy soundtrack will suck her right in then the diffaculty will crush her soul, for bonus points tell her that it's a really easy game compared to most.

Then after she's given up on Megaman give her Cooking Mama.

Games my girlfriend has played and liked:

Little Big Planet
Portal 2
Uncharted 1&2
Resistance (sort of)
James Bond Blood Stone

Shes not a huge gamer but start with those and just watch what she plays you'll see a pattern of what she likes (my girlfriend doesnt like shooting aliens/monsters but loves shooting people)

I introduced my girlfriend to Oblivion and Portal 2. She's also been watching me play Dead Space 2, and is invaluable in helping me pick up ammo that I missed.

Lego Star Wars to keep it light then hit her with Portal.

Also Half-Life 2, which was my first proper experience with PC fpses.

For PS3, LBP2, Portal 1 or 2, flower is pretty good (not just for girls, that thing is addictive), Definatly get the ICO collection when it comes out (HD remakes of shaddow of the colossus and ICO), For shooters you will probily want to ask what type, as you could go down the Bioshock/deadspace/half life/MGS little ammo and alot of story games, or the COD/Battlefield/Killzone RAAAAH SHOOT BUHLETS games.

But seriously LBP 1 or 2, really fun, challenging, entertaining, and you can generally build an OK friends list as you play online and work together with strangers, I now have gameshared (shared account details) with an american guy, play regularly on cod with a japanese guy and his friends, and even helped a mum who lived in glasgow play through resident evil, just from meeting on LBP, no other game will do that if you dont already have friend gamers
