I like the idea, but why would you start 200 years in the past just to fast-forward a few scenes later?
*snip*
Because, Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's been a fallout game where any of it was set in the pre-apocalypse age, nor a game where you got to live the day when the bombs dropped.
I know. I just think it would feel strange to start on the day the bombs hit and then suddenly leap two centuries forward.

It would be interesting to see the new world being built, but I'd rather have it in smaller steps. Maybe divide the game into chapters, jumping fifty years at a time? Or have the majority of the game in "year zero," and then jump to Fallout's "present day" for an epilogue?
I see what you're saying. Perhaps have something like they do fallout 3? Where you work up in sections to the "present day". I Think that's been suggested, but there it is.

In (original) fallout lore that would piss off a lot of people. Remember, Ghouls are not just normal humans. There are bits falling off, and muscle atrophy. Some ghouls are so crippled they can't even fire anything bigger than a handgun. A lot of ghouls cannot run very well. Its restrictive.
I've had the thought of playing as a ghoul myself, but I agree with this. It would cause way too many gameplay problems for the player.

Furthermore, most of the gameplay of Fallout3 and NV would be off limits to a ghoul character. It would be impossible to fool the NCR just by wearing their faction armor, and you wouldn't be able to just waltz into a town and start talking to people, since a lot of people would be prejudiced towards you.

Even though the choice of playing as a ghoul would be awesome, the game would probably just end up consisting of hanging out in some abandoned metrostation or sewer somewhere.
There's an entire Ranger station that was all ghouls except the guy in charge. As far as the prejudice goes, in Morrowind pretty much everyone hates foreigners(you), and it went just fine.

Also, old fallout lore regarding ghouls being crippled went away as soon as feral ghouls started sprinting like madmen to eat your face. Then it stayed away when feral ghouls still sprinted at you like madmen in New Vegas, so I'm not seeing it really matter anymore.

Wow, kinda sensitive to change aren't we skip?

I think it's a good idea, but can't see it spanning an entire game. Maybe an expansion for New Vegas or something? You meet a ghoul and he tells you his story [which will lead you to treasure or something so you don't kill him]
Meh. Not particularly sensitive, no.

But hey, you know what would be great? How about for a Star Wars game, instead of taking place in space, they're all cowboys.

I got one! Fallout Australia. Imagine, you could fight mutated kangaroos and wombats and koalas. That's a game I would buy.

You mean like every cowboy film where the main character and his friends have to save the girl from the bad guy and his henchmen?

It's like call of duty, that worked and was primarily a WW2 game, then they branched out to modern times and it worked just as well.

Nope, I mean still Star Wars. It's still about jedis and lightsabers and aliens and the force, but now they just decide to do everything on Cowboy World, and wear cowboy hats, and deal with rustlers trying to steal blue space cows.

You know, just completely shelve the stuff that makes Star Wars be Star Wars and simply move everything to a cowboy planet where all that Star Wars stuff feels really odd and forced and out of place.

Because that would be great.

I think the idea of starting off before the bombs fell is a great one, I also would love to see a Fallout set in another country. I loved 3 and New Vegas (glitches aside) but really want a Fallout: anywhere else. Australia could be cool or UK (biased as am UK myself lol)

How bout this for an idea...

The courier in New Vegas has no backstory other than that releasing in the new DLC, so do a game / DLC based on a prequal to New Vegas and Fallout 3. Could examine where the courier came from, why in this part of wasteland and why they became a courier?

Anyway let me know and try not to hate to much as this is all just opinion!

Well that's a slightly more radical change than setting a post apocalyptic game in Europe or Africa [mutant lions and giant snakes anyone?] instead of a post apocalyptic game set in THE GLORIOUS STATES

So pretty much The Road Warrior with more mutants? ...Yeah, I'd buy it too.
