Long story short: A new MLP cartoon is out, its very good, its became a very popular meme.

Dont let the fans and their memes scare you off. Its actually good.
The memes are a nice touch, wouldn't you agree?
Meh, I'm not really into the meme. I like the show but I'm not IN love with it like most of the internet.(no offense just joking)

Though there is the occasional pony pic that makes me giggle.

And now for a familiar reply to veterans:

It's animation is great, its characters are fleshed out and realised without being stereotypes, the voice acting is phenomenal, the songs are good, the subject matter is excellent, they don't treat the audience like idiots, and the Creator Lauren Faust made it with the intent that adults will be watching it with their daughters, thus she didn't dumb it down.

Lauren Faust was also able to make this happen by telling Hasbro that she wasn't just going to make a twenty minute commercial for the toy-line and actually make people care about what they are buying. Plus, she's the one behind Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, both of which are quite good.
Actually, she's behind the design and several other things... her husband, Craig McKracken, created those shows. Why do people keep forgetting this!?
Because its convenient for my argument of course! Seriously though, she had a big hand in those shows as well as many others that I don't care to type out every time this thread starts up again.

The vicious cycle continues! I hear a lot of people are watching because they actually enjoy and stuff - me? I watch for the strong political message hidden underneath the awesomely drawn and flesh out characters. Truly revolutionary in it's approach, the show goes to great lengths to promote ideals of friendship, tolerance and understanding - ideals that I believe is depressingly absent from modern-day politics.

...Real reason. When I and many others watch it, I feel a smile spreading across my face. An effect that many TV shows fail to have on me these days. It's okay, I can tolerate your mistake to post a thread that's been done hundreds of times before. Just use the search bar next time, friend.

the fanbase are single minded and irritating to a massive degree.
The show is fine but theres better out there from young justice to futurama.

Endnote : overated, but not the worst, you join the fanbase though and you'll use infuriatingly stupdi words like "anypony" and deserve my unending wrath.
I love you too.

Heh, I wonder when this process will finally end. You'd think that after a while everyone would know what the show was all about.

Anyway, it's a great show masterminded by Lauren Faust, who did Foster's Home for Imaginry Friends and the Powerpuff Girls. It has a very long list of references to things that would seem to be completely absent in any other kids' show, it's well animated, and it's just enjoyable all around. But everyone's just being redundant at this point, I'm sure very poster in this thread has posted something similar in the past in an almost identical thread.

Now I might have missed something (and by "might have" read "probalbly") but what is it with all the My Little Pony avatars and references? Is it a big irony thing or do people actually like it. I'm really confused.
I have a pony avatar because I think the show is really fucking good. You should watch a bit of it, who knows, you might enjoy it as hundreds of us do ^-^

The first place I saw it start to become 'popular' was /b/

I wouldn't be surprised if this is just another thing that /b/tards started as a joke on their forum, and then some people just took it too far and spread it everywhere else as well...

I am an avid fan of the show, its fanfiction, and its fanart, but I don't use words like "anypony". Where do I stand?

Wow. 1 day this time.

Just go watch the first episode. I can't stand the show, but it's loved by many here.

Personally, I think it's a Japanese run indoctrination program and the next season will involve them trying to defeat "The Evil Power".

Escape while you can.

I've never seen it myself but it is getting hard to resist with the cute ponies everywhere, especially now that I know who is behind it.
I know this topic has been done to death but if friendship is indeed magic, why not use this as an opportunity to convert and not chastise for failure to use search bar?

If it was a joke then I missed the memo. Because I saw and liked the first 18 episodes before I knew it had a massive internet following.

Then you kind sir have you head lodged in a most unsavoury place.

Just because it started there doesn't make it simple troll chow. Once everybody and their dog ended having their ironic laughter, people looked back and realised it's quite GOOD. Shocking I know.

What's great about this is that it takes the simple form that My Little Pony has, then put's it in a threshing machine so many times it looks like something out of "Cupcakes"(DON'T ask, just.....don't). The main characters seem human in nature, the animation is great (and this was made in, Would you believe it, FLASH!), voice acting is spot on for the characters, the plot has much variation (Party of One comes to mind) and it was created by Lauren Faust, who may as well have a directors glove that turns everything into solid gold!

So, yes, it started off in /b/.
But remember the ugly duckling!

hmmm depends, do you spam the meme everwhere
and importantly when someone asks you your hobbies is it amongst them, or do you use more general terms (ie rather than saying, i like animation , video games and music, do you say i like MLP video games and music, the difference being that the show is singularly more important than other aspects)
I only ever use the images where they are appropriate: dedicated pony threads and our user group. Honestly, I don't watch enough tv or animation to really consider it one of my interests, so in that case I would probably just say MLP.

I have watched the show, and I do get a little confused when people act like it's well animated. I don't get me wrong, I've seen worse...a lot worse, but it's not anything spectacular, it's not really pushing any envelopes or delivering something new.

As for the writing...It's ok. It has a certain charm to it that harkens back and brings memories of a lot of the older McCracken shows, which I think could be another factor into why people like it so much, nostalgia (easy people, I'm not saying this applies to everyone and is the only reason to like it, but it's a fairly plausible factor for a lot of people)

At this point the show honestly feels more like Paris Hilton or the Kardashians. They're more famous for being famous than they are for doing anything spectacular.

The first episode features a cynical loner pony trying to stop an ancient doomsday prophecy while accidentally making friends everywhere she goes, and then there's a part where a pony kicks a manticore in the face. This show is fantastic, hype or no.
